Unequipping "Protective Soul Ailin" and treating it as a Monster Card again is treated as a Special Summon.

The effect which places a Spell Counter on "Skilled Dark Magician" when a Spell Card is activated does not start a Chain.
The Spell Counter is placed on "Skilled Dark Magician" after the resolution of the activated Spell Card.

Tributing this card with three Spell Counters on it is a cost to activate the effect which Special Summons "Dark Magician".
