An attack target is the monster chosen to be attacked when someone declares an attack. The attack target is always chosen by whoever declares the attack, unless a card such as "Patrician of Darkness" is in play.
If the number of monsters on the opposing side of the field changes when a player declares an attack, a Replay occurs.
Also, certain cards will not allow the turn player to choose an attack target.
