Whenever "The Winged Dragon of Ra" was Tribute Summoned, it was represented in this form until its Hieratic Text could be recited. While in this mode, Ra cannot attack, defend, or activate any of its special abilities.
Its most notable appearance was the first time "Ra" was Tribute Summoned, by Mai Valentine in episode 91, in which she adds Yami Marik's "Ra" card to her hand by the effect of "Amazoness Chain Master" and subsequently Tribute Summons it. In the next episode, after Mai fails to recite the Hieratic Text, Marik is given the opportunity to do so, allowing him to unlock this card's true form.

The same turn, he Tribute Summons this card to Maximillion Pegasus' field by Tributing his "Toon Cyber Dragon", "Toon Mermaid", and "Toon Goblin Attack Force". The next turn, control of this card returns to Marik at the End Phase. The turn after, Marik Tributes this card to Special Summon "The Winged Dragon of Ra" from his Main Deck with 4000 ATK and DEF.
