"Star Grail" is an archetype introduced in Code of the Duelist. The archetype is related to, and is supported by, the "Star Relic" archetype.

Design

The main "Star Grail" monsters are all monsters of different Types and Attributes who seemingly evolve into stronger, armored Link Monsters - possibly due to the "Star Relics" unlocked by them per the request of "Star Grail Fairy Ries", as mentioned in the flavor text of "Star Grail's Chosen".

Star Grail's Beckoned Star Grail Warrior Ningirsu
Star Grail's Chosen Star Grail Swordsman Aurum
Star Grail's Protector Dragon Star Grail Dragon Imduk

Playing style

The "Star Grail" archetype relies on exploring the specificities of the Link Summon mechanic. For example, "Star Grail Shrine Maiden Eve" has a blanket protection while linked to a monster, "Star Grail Warrior Ningirsu" provides card advantage according to the number of "Star Grail" monsters linked to it upon its Link Summon and "Star Grail Dragon Imduk" destroys an opposing monster linked to it at the start of the Damage Step. This playing style reinforces need of a very careful planning of where the player must place their Link Monsters and the proper order of the Summons, in order to make the most of all of their effects. The "Star Grail" Link monsters also replace themselves with a "Star Grail" monster from the hand when they are sent to the Graveyard; this can be used to further support the Link Summons, as this effect can be triggered when they are used as Link Materials.

With the main "Star Grail" monsters being Normal Monsters, the archetype can benefit from Normal Monster support such as "Rescue Rabbit" and "Unexpected Dai", which can also help Link Summoning faster.
