- XYZ-Dragon Cannon is made up of two searchable components, Y-Dragon Head and Z-Metal Tank. Sangan can search them to your hand, but Shining Angel can get them directly to the field. X-Head Cannon, along with the other two, can be searched through Jade Knight.
- XYZ monsters remove themselves from play a lot. Dimension Fusion and/or Return from the Different Dimension can help you summon back those monsters for swarm, or to summon 2 of the same Fusion monster.
- You can ease XYZ-Dragon Cannon's discard cost with Ojamagic or Night Assailant. Elemental Hero Woodsman can also help with the discard cost (although you'll be limited to using it's effect once per turn).
- Y-Dragon Head and Z-Metal Tank are both Union monsters. That means you can use Roll Out! and Frontline Base to swarm quickly.
- Before Special Summoning this card, you have the option of using Limiter Removal to boost the ATK of its materials. By Special Summoning this card during your Main Phase 2 you avoid the cost of them being Destroyed.
- If this card was destroyed and winds up in your Graveyard, it can be a pain to re-summon it. One easy way to do so is to use the effect of Herald of Creation. Since XYZ-Dragon Cannon is a Fusion monster, it will wind up in your Fusion Deck when you use Herald of Creation's effect. Then use Return from the Different Dimension to bring back the Fusion Material Monsters of this card and fuse them to bring back XYZ-Dragon Cannon.
- You can combo this card with "Dark Armed Dragon". When you discard a DARK monster for this effect, you can then remove it for "Dark Armed Dragon's" effect, destroying 2 cards for the price of one.
- Use Forced Requisition to destroy 2 cards (one in your opponent's hand and one on the field) for each card you discard.
- Combine the top two combos to destroy 3 cards for the price of one.
- While you control XYZ-Dragon Cannon, activate the effect of Thunder Dragon to add 2 Thunder Dragons to your hand. So, you can discard 2 cards for the effect of XYZ-Dragon Cannon instead of 1.

First, you need a Volcanic Shell in your Graveyard and a face-up XYZ-Dragon Cannon; now activate Destructive Draw during your opponent's End Phase while you have a face-up Card Trader and no cards in your hand. Draw 2 cards due to Destructive Draw, activate the Volcanic Shell in your Graveyard to add another Volcanic Shell to your hand. Now during your Standby Phase activate your Card Trader to return the Volcanic Shell to your Deck...and finally, discard the 3 cards in your hand to destroy your opponent's cards with XYZ-Dragon Cannon's effect.
