Duelist Kingdom

"Magical Hats" in the English dub.

• The artwork initially features black hats and a white glow. The real card features blue hats and a pink glow.

• In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, Magical Hats was a Quick-Play Spell Card with the lore: "Activate only if you control a face-up Spellcaster-Type monster. Select 1 monster you control and flip it into face-down Defense Position. Special Summon 3 "Magical Hat Tokens". The face-down cards are then shuffled. Trap Cards may be Set to be triggered when one of the Tokens is destroyed."

• This card first appeared in Episode 9, where it was used to hide Yugi's Dark Magician from Ghost Kaiba's Blue-Eyes White Dragon. However, this was not elaborated on until episode 010, where the Mimic misses the Dark Magician twice, triggering Spellbinding Circle on the second shot.

• Yugi uses this card during his first Tag-Team Duel with Joey Wheeler against the Paradox Brothers. He uses it to hide both his "Dark Magician" and Joey's "Flame Swordsman". One of the tokens is destroyed by Dox's "Dungeon Worm", but the hat was empty. Joey then released his "Flame Swordsman" out, so he could destroy "Dungeon Worm". Later "Gate Guardian"'s bottom section: "Suijin" flooded the maze with its attack. The hats were able to protect "Dark Magician" who was still inside a hat from the attack. One of the hats attacked contained "Spellbinding Circle" which Yugi activates on his turn to prevent any of Gate Guardian's sections from defending against his "Summoned Skull"'s attack. Later Yugi released his "Dark Magician" from the hat it was hiding, so it can move further through the maze.

• Yugi uses this card against Joey Wheeler in episode 34, ultimately using the same strategy from his Duel against Ghost Kaiba by hiding "Spellbinding Circle" inside one of his Magical Hat Tokens along with his "Dark Magician". "B. Skull Dragon" would destroy three tokens before "Spellbinding Circle" was activated. The last token containing "Dark Magician" was automatically destroyed shortly after the third token was destroyed.

• Yugi uses this card against Maximillion Pegasus, who ultimately counters with "Magical Neutralizing Force Field" to destroy the remaining Magical Hat Tokens after destroying two of them with "Toon Summoned Skull".

Legendary Heroes

• Yugi uses this card in the Virtual World in episode 44 to help him, Joey Wheeler, Mai Valentine, and Mokuba Kaiba escape a trio of "Labyrinth Tanks".

Dungeon Dice Monsters

• When Yugi faced Duke Devlin in a Dungeon Dice Monsters game, "Magical Hats" was an effect that could be used by "Dark Magician", having the same anime properties as its card counterpart.

Battle City

• Yugi uses this card against Bandit Keith in episode 51, but Keith uses "Magic Jammer" to negate and destroy it.

• Yugi Muto used this card to protect his "Dark Magician" from Arkana's "Mystic Guillotine". Arkana then used "Thousand Knives" to destroy Yugi's "Dark Magician" since its effect was able to automatically figure out which hat "Dark Magician" was under, but Yugi used "Cursebreaker" which destroyed both this card and "Thousand Knives".

• Yugi used this card against Strings, to protect his "Dark Magician Girl" from being destroyed by "Slifer the Sky Dragon's" effect, as she had less than 2000 DEF. When the hat that contained "Dark Magician Girl" was attacked by "Slifer the Sky Dragon", Yugi utilizes "Magic Cylinder" and "Spellbinding Circle" to save his monster and destroy "Slifer", however Strings thwarts the redirected attack with "Revial Jam" and "Jam Defender".

Virtual World

• This card is used again in Yugi and Joey's duel against the Big Five. Yugi used this card to protect his Deck Master from "Berserk Dragon". He then used his Deck Master's Special Ability to duplicate the effect of this card so that way the effect of this card would protect Joey's Deck Master. When "Berserk Dragon" attacked all of the hats on Yugi's side of the field, Joey had his Deck Master take the attack that would have destroyed Yugi's Deck Master. Joey then used "Silver Dollar" to negate the attack made on his Deck Master.

Waking the Dragons

• This card can be seen in Yugi's hand after he activates "Card of Sanctity" during episode 157.

• In episode 175, Yami Yugi uses this card to protect "Big Shield Gardna" and "Dark Magician" from Rafael's Guardian monsters. One hat was used to take the attack of "Guardian Eatos" and this hat contained "Big Shield Gardna" which was destroyed shortly after. Another was destroyed by "Guardian Elma", so Rafael would have higher chances to get rid of "Dark Magician". "Guardian Grarl" then destroyed a third one, but that hat was empty and the last hat containing "Dark Magician" was destroyed automatically afterwards since there was only one hat remaining after "Grarl"'s attack.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX

• This card appears in the GX Japanese closing song Borderline Battle as a Spell Card.
• This card can be seen in episode 180 in Yugi's hand after "Subspatial Battle" resolves.

Video games

• Kuroe uses this in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2009: Stardust Accelerator.
