"Black Luster Soldier", known as "Chaos Soldier" (カオス・ソルジャー Kaosu Sorujā) in the OCG, is an archetype of Level 8 Warrior-Type monsters used by Yugi Muto/Yami Yugi in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga and Dimitri in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. It is also a sub-archetype of the "Chaos" archetype. Members have existed since the Asian Tournament Promos: 1999, but did not receive support until Dimension of Chaos .

Playing style

The main searcher of this archetype is the Field Spell Card "Gateway to Chaos", which searches a "Black Luster Soldier" Ritual Monster or "Gaia The Fierce Knight" monster when activated; it can also search any Ritual Spell Card.

"Exchange of Night and Day" can be used to swap either "Arisen Gaia" and "Charging Gaia"; or "Beginning Knight" and "Evening Twilight Knight" from the hand to the Graveyard to setup for their effects that activate when banished from the Graveyard.

"Black Luster Soldier - Sacred Soldier" can be searched and Special Summoned by the "Gaia The Fierce Knight" monsters, is able to recycle any of the four "Gaia The Fierce Knight" Monsters to the Graveyard on Summon and banish a card the opposing player controls.

The two major drawbacks of "Super Soldier Ritual" relative to "Black Luster Ritual" are that it requires a total Level of exactly 8 and it cannot be searched by "Pre-Preparation of Rites".

"Armageddon Knight" or "Freed the Matchless General" can be a Chaos-style engine for the 2 Level 4 Warriors.

The effect of "Curse of Dragonfire" can Fusion Summon "Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion" and in turn can search "Spiral Spear Strike".
