Lore

Etymology

"Mikanko" is a complex wordplay with multiples references. It is an alternative reading of mikannagi (御巫みかんなぎ), a court lady who serves in Shintō rituals, and when written as 御神子みかんこ is a synonym of miko (a Shintō priestess). It is also a play on mikan (蜜柑みかん, "citrus") and ko (, "child"), meaning it effectively sounds like "citrus girl" - this is reflected by the emblem of theme resembling both the Imperial Seal of Japan and a lemon slice.

"Ohime the Manifested Mikanko" is named after the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu, while the other "Mikanko" members are named after descendants of Amaterasu who inherited her three sacred treasures.

Playing style

"Mikanko" is a Ritual Monster theme focused on doing battle and using various Equip Spell Cards. All monsters of this theme have 0 ATK/DEF with effects that reflect the damage you would take from battle right back to your opponent. For the non-Ritual monsters, this is done through being equipped with Equip Cards, which also cause those monsters to activate their own additional effects.
