"Gimmick Puppet" (ギミック・パペット Gimmikku Papetto) is an archetype of Machine-Type monsters that are used by Quattro in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime. They are a sub-archetype of the "Puppet" archetype. They visually resemble "creepy" dolls and puppets.
The monsters and associated cards are geared towards Summoning Level 8 monsters to Xyz Summon their ace monsters, "Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder", "Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings, and "Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo".
"Gimmick Puppet" Main Deck monsters tend to be Level 8 or changeable to Level 8 and can easily Special Summon themselves to Xyz Summon the Rank 8 "Numbers" that form part of the archetype. "Gimmick Puppet" Main Deck monsters don't have high ATK (the strongest being the Level 4 "Gimmick Puppet Egg Head"), but have effects that can stall, swarm and even Summon monsters to the opponent's side of the field to later punish the opponent for having. The "Gimmick Puppet" strategy is to quickly Summon the Rank 8 "Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings" and "Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder" to take burn the opponent with Effect Damage while hitting heavily with "Strings"'s high ATK. "Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo" offers an alternate victory strategy with its effect.
The first "Gimmick Puppet" monsters used by Quattro to be released were "Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll," "Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll," "Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder," "Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings," and "Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo." However, the TCG release of Number Hunters brought several much-needed support cards to the TCG, making a pure "Gimmick Puppet" Deck possible. As the Yu-Gi-Oh ZEXAL anime progressed, several more "Gimmick Puppet" cards were unveiled, including three "Number C" monsters. "Premium Gold" reprinted many of the Gimmick Puppets and introduced many new ones to the TCG.
Gimmick Puppet OTK
The Gimmick Puppet OTK is made by summoning "Gearspring Spirit" and using its effect on an Attack Position monster, Xyz Summoning "Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings" ("Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll" can be used), equipping it with "Stoic Challenge" and attacking the monster with 0 ATK for (at least) 8400 damage.

Rank-Up Gimmick Puppets
This build primarily focuses on building up the field for an OTK with the powerful "Gimmick Puppet" CXyz monsters (such as "Number C40: Gimmick Puppet of Dark Strings) while picking away at your opponent's resources. This build also opens up room for other Rank 9 monsters, like "CXyz Coach Lord Ultimatrainer" and "Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon"
