• "Dark Magician" is a Signature Card of Yami Yugi and Arkana.

• The alternate-art "red" Dark Magician used by Arkana in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga may be seen here. Despite having the same name, he is not the same card as the "purple" Dark Magician always used by Yugi Mutou, as he has a different eight-digit passcode.

• The greenish/bluish skinned version with blond hair was the original intention of the card, and is consequently used more often outside of the anime.

• The seal behind the original art of "Dark Magician" is featured on "Dark Magician Girl", "Dark Magician of Chaos, "Magician of Black Chaos", "Dark Paladin", "Magician's Valkyria", "Sorcerer of Dark Magic", "Sage's Stone", "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4", "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6", "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8", "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys", "Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment", "Magic Jammer", "Trap Jammer", "Premature Burial", "Summoner's Art", "Glorious Illusion" and finally, on most booster packs, tins, boxes, and toys.

• Dark Magician Girl is known to be apprentice of the Dark Magician.

• This card is featured on the artwork of the following cards:

  • "Magician's Selection"
  • "Speed Spell - Speed Fusion"

• In some GBA and DS Yu-Gi-Oh games, it is possible to have six Dark Magician's in your Deck as it doesn't recognize alternate art cards as being the same.

• This is most likely the single most supported card of all.

• On the french "Thousand Knives" (and in the French version of the show), this card is called "Magicien des Ténèbres" although his real name is "Magicien Sombre".

• The Bandai version of Dark Magician has 2000 DEF, whereas the real card has 2100 DEF.

• Each artwork of "Dark Magician" (except the Arkana version) appears on the manga when Yugi summons it.
  • "Hand on the hat" version (SDY) appears in the 8th Tome (Duelist Volume 1 : Duelist Kingdom).
  • "Stands straight" version (LOB/SYE) appears in the 11th Tome (Duelist Volume 4 : Dungeon of Doom)
  • "Giant rock" version (SD6/PCY) appears in the 19th Tome (Duelist Volume 12 : Magician vs. Magician)

• On 3 artworks of "Dark Magician" (LOB/SYE, SDY and Arkana version), his rod is Green, whereas in one version (SD6/PCY) and on Dark Magic Attack his rod is red & blue.

• Currently, Dark Magician has appeared either in play or on card artwork in all four anime series. (Toei series, Duel Monsters, GX and 5D's)

• Dark Magician has the same ATK as the Signature Card of other main protagonists, which are Jaden's Elemental Hero Neos and Yusei's Stardust Dragon.
