"Stargrail" is an archetype introduced in Code of the Duelist. The archetype is related to, and is supported by, the "Starrelic" archetype.

Design

The main "Stargrail" monsters are all monsters of different Types and Attributes who seemingly evolve into stronger, armored Link Monsters - possibly due to the "Starrelics" unlocked by them per the request of "Stargrail's Fairy Ries", as mentioned in the flavor text of "Stargrail's Chosen", to fight against the "Crawlers".

Playing style

The "Stargrail" archetype relies on exploring the specificities of the Link Summon mechanic. For example, "Stargrail Shrine Maiden Eve" has a blanket protection while in a Linked State, "Stargrail Warrior Ningirsu" provides card advantage according to the number of "Stargrail" monsters linked to it upon its Link Summon and "Stargrail Dragon Imduk" destroys an opposing monster linked to it at the start of the Damage Step. This playing style on the whole reinforces the need of a very careful planning of where the player must place their Link Monsters and the proper order of the Summons, in order to make the most of all of their effects. The "Stargrail" Link monsters also replace themselves with a "Stargrail" monster from the hand when they are sent to the Graveyard; this can be used to further support the Link Summons, as this effect can be triggered when they are used as Link Materials.

With the main "Stargrail" monsters being Normal Monsters, the archetype can benefit from Normal Monster support such as "Rescue Rabbit" and "Unexpected Dai", which can also help Link Summoning faster. "Link Spider" can provide an opening play for this archetype in combination with the former card by Summoning a "Stargrail" Normal Monster to its Link Point.
