Q&A Rulings

  • Q: "Macro Cosmos" is face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect that banishes any card that would be sent to the GY is applying. In this situation, if I activate the first effect of "Vampire's Desire" targeting a "Vampire Scarlet Scourge" on my field, what happens?
A: Even while the effect of "Macro Cosmos" is applying, you can activate the first effect of "Vampire's Desire". In that case, the "Vampire" monster that would be sent from your Deck to the GY is banished instead, and the part of the effect that changes the targeted monster's Level does not apply. (In this scenario, "Vampire Scarlet Scourge" retains its original Level.)[1]
A: The first effect of "Vampire's Desire" will not be applied if the targeted monster is in face-down Defense Position when it resolves. (You do not send any "Vampire" monster from your Deck to the GY, and the targeted monster's Level does not change.)[2]
  • Q: A "Vampire Familiar" that was Special Summoned by its own effect is the only monster on my field. In this situation, can I activate the second effect of "Vampire's Desire"?
A: Even if a "Vampire Familiar" that was Special Summoned by its own effect is the only monster on your field, you can activate the second effect of "Vampire's Desire". In that case, "Vampire Familiar" is banished instead of being sent to the GY, so the part of the effect that Special Summons the targeted monster from the GY does not apply. (The targeted "Vampire" monster remains in your GY.)[3]
A: Even if the Pendulum Monster "P.M. Captor" is the only monster on your field, you can activate the second effect of "Vampire's Desire". In that case, "P.M. Captor" is added face-up to the Extra Deck instead of sent to the GY, and the targeted "Vampire" monster is not Special Summoned.[4]
