Does anyone have any idea what the World Standard Championships are/were? "WS1" and "WS2", for "World Standard Championship 1" and "World Standard Championship 2", respectively, have been listed on the image policy as in-house abbreviations (implying that these championships would have taken place before April 20, 2000) since August 7, 2006, when TwoTailedFox added the entire in-house set abbreviations section to the policy page. The only other relevant mentions I can find of these sets/championships - either by name or by abbreviation, and either using the built-in MediaWiki search on only this wiki or Google search across the entire internet - are on User talk:Taylor, where the abbreviations were first listed by Narchibald84 at 12:37, July 30, 2006 (UTC), and on User talk:BadPlayer, where TwoTailedFox posted an almost identical message at 17:09, July 30, 2006 (UTC). It is possible that there are earlier mentions in page histories, but there is no simple way of searching those short of examining a database dump, and even that wouldn't catch potential mentions in deleted page histories. Latest revision as of 16:41, 20 October 2011

Does anyone know anything about this? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:48, February 14, 2011 (UTC)

After downloading the most recent database dump and looking through it, I found that Narchibald84 added the set "World Standard Championship Series" to "Sengenjin" on 16:59, July 21, 2006 (UTC). TwoTailedFox changed it to "World Championship Series 2004 Promos" at 18:54, January 6, 2007 (UTC). He then reverted himself 4 minutes later, and redid the change (with some other stuff) at 01:33, February 20, 2007 (UTC). At 02:10, December 24, 2007, he moved the set number to the "en_sets" parameter, just leaving the set name in the "jp_sets" parameter, and at 21:29, February 2, 2008 (UTC), he finally removed the set outright. This page is the only other instance I found in the entire database dump of the text "World Standard Championship"; is this all there is to it? If so, I'm going to just remove the "World Standard Championship" entries from the image policy page. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:16, February 14, 2011 (UTC)
I believe these abbreviations came from a list originally compiled by a user of Pojo, which itself was a hish-hash of translations from a Japanese wiki (to which I have since forgotten the address). I would take the former names as rough Japanese translations, with the move to WCS Promos done more to harmonise with what they really are in English.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:34, October 20, 2011 (UTC)
