Q&A Rulings

  • Q: When activating the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous" that returns an opponent's card to the hand, can I return an "Altergeist Primebanshee" on my field to the hand as the cost?
A: Since "Altergeist Primebanshee" is a Link Monster, you cannot choose it when returning an "Altergeist" card on your field to the hand as the cost of the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous".[1]
  • Q: When activating the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous" that returns an opponent's card to the hand, can I target a Token monster on my opponent's field?
A: When activating the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous" that returns an opponent’s card to the hand, you can also target a Token. (It does not return to the hand, but disappears instead.)[2]
A: In this scenario, if "Altergeist Silquitous" is equipped with "Altergeist Manifestation", you can return that "Altergeist Manifestation" to the hand as the cost of activating the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous". In that case, "Altergeist Silquitous" is immediately destroyed by the effect of "Altergeist Manifestation", but its effect that returns the opponent's card to the hand is applied normally. Note that you can also activate the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous" that adds an "Altergeist" Trap Card from your Graveyard to your hand, in a new Chain afterward.[3]
A: "Altergeist Manifestation" is a Normal Trap Card, but by its effect it will become an Equip Card and remain face-up on the field. Therefore, if you chain the effect of "Altergeist Silquitous" to "Altergeist Manifestation", you can return that "Altergeist Manifestation" to your hand as the cost. When "Altergeist Manifestation" resolves, the targeted monster ("Altergeist Hexstia" in this scenario) is Special Summoned, but cannot be equipped. (Also, by the time the monster is Special Summoned, since "Altergeist Manifestation" has already left the field, its effect that destroys the equipped monster when it leaves the field is not be applied.)[4]
