OCG Rulings

  • "You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 Tribute Summoned monster" is not treated as a monster effect.[1]
  • You can also Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 face-down Defense Position Tribute Summoned (Set) monster in your Monster Zone.[1]
  • This card's effect is a Trigger Effect. (It targets 1 card on either player's field. It activates mandatorily if "Caius the Mega Monarch" is Tribute Summoned face-up.)[1]
  • If this card was Tribute Summoned by Tributing a DARK monster, you can target 2 cards instead. (You choose whether to target 1 or 2 cards when the effect is activated.)[1]
  • "banish it" and "inflict 1000 damage to your opponent" happen at the same time. If the banished card was a DARK Monster Card, the effect finishes resolving by applying "banish all cards with that name from the hand, Main Deck, Extra Deck, and GY of the player who controlled it".[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: The effects of "Caius the Shadow Monarch" and "Caius the Mega Monarch" are Trigger Effects that activate mandatorily when they are Tribute Summoned. Therefore, their effects activate and start a Chain Link even if the effect of "Imperial Iron Wall" is being applied. However, since cards cannot be banished due to the effect of "Imperial Iron Wall", you do not target a card, and when the effect of "Caius the Shadow Monarch" or "Caius the Mega Monarch" resolves, its effect is not applied.[2]
