OCG Rulings

  • This card targets 1 face-up monster in your opponent's Monster Zone. (Its effect continues to target that monster.)[1]
  • This card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[1]
  • The effect of taking control of the targeted monster and preventing it from attacking or activating its effects is an effect applied to the targeted monster.[1]
  • Destroying this card when the targeted monster leaves the field does not start a Chain. (This effect will also apply during the Damage Step.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: Even if "Royal Decree" is chained to "Crackdown", the activation is not negated, so "Crackdown" continues to target the targeted monster. Afterward, if the effect of "Royal Decree" stops applying, the effect of "Crackdown" will apply and take control of the targeted monster. (As a result, the part of the effect that prevents that monster from attacking or activating its effects is also applied.)[2]
A: Even if the targeted monster is in face-down Defense Position due to an effect chained to "Crackdown", the effect is applied normally and you gain control of that monster. The part of the effect that prevents that monster from attacking or activating its effects is also applied, so if it is flipped face-up afterward, it cannot attack or activate its effects.[3][4]
A: Even if "Forbidden Lance" is chained to "Crackdown", and its effect is applied to the targeted monster, the activation of "Crackdown" was not negated, so it continues to target the targeted monster. Afterward, when the effect of "Forbidden Lance" stops applying, the effect of "Crackdown" will apply and take control of the targeted monster. (As a result, the part of the effect that prevents that monster from attacking or activating its effects is also applied.)[5][6]
A: If the monster you took control of with the effect of "Crackdown" is then changed to face-down Defense Position, it stops being targeted by "Crackdown". The effect that takes control of the targeted monster stops applying, however control of the monster never returns to your opponent. Also, since the effect that prevents the monster from attacking or activating its effects also stops applying, that monster will be able to attack and activate its effects once it is flipped face-up. Furthermore, "Crackdown" itself remains face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone, and is not destroyed if that monster leaves the field.[7][6]
