Card Rulings:Ghostrick Mansion
OCG Rulings
- The effect of "Ghostrick Mansion" is applied to the monsters each player controls. Regardless of which player activated this card, "Monsters cannot attack face-down Defense Position monsters, but can attack directly if all monsters their opponent controls are face-down Defense Position.". Furthermore, if each player controls "Ghostrick Mansion", the "All effect damage, and battle damage inflicted by monsters other than "Ghostrick" monsters, is halved." effect is only applied once and the battle damage is halved normally. (The damage is not reduced to 1/4th.)[1]
- Regardless of which player activated "Ghostrick Mansion", its effect applies to all monsters on the field. Therefore, if an opponent's "Ghostrick Stein" inflicts battle damage, even if you are the player who activated "Ghostrick Mansion", the battle damage you take from "Ghostrick Stein" is not halved. Similarly, if a "Crane Crane" you control inflicts battle damage to your opponent, that battle damage is halved.[2]
- While "Ghostrick Mansion" is face-up on the field, after "Star Eater" declares an attack, "Star Eater" becomes unaffected by other card effects until the end of the Damage Step. Therefore, while the effect of "Ghostrick Mansion" is applying, when you are declaring an attack with "Star Eater", you cannot select a face-down Defense Position monster as an attack target. (A face-up monster must be targeted for the attack, or if there are none, the attack is a direct attack.) Once a direct attack is declared with "Star Eater", it becomes unaffected by other cards' effects and is unable to attack directly, so a replay occurs. When the replay occurs, if you choose to re-select an attack target, "Star Eater" is still unaffected by other cards' effects, allowing you to target a face-down Defense Position monster for the attack, but it is no longer possible to make the attack a direct attack if there are any monsters on your opponent's side of the field. Note that any battle damage inflicted by "Star Eater" is not halved.[3]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Ghostrick Vanish: The effect of "Ghostrick Vanish" is not only applied to "Ghostrick" cards and face-down Defense Position monsters you control at the time of the resolution of its effect, but also "Ghostrick" cards and face-down Defense Position monsters that appear on the field afterwards (like a "Ghostrick Mansion" activated afterwards).[4]
- Yosenju Oyam: While all your 5 Monster Zones are occupied, and an opponent's monster declares a direct attack by the effect of "Ghostrick Mansion", since you cannot Special Summon "Yosenju Oyam", its effect in the hand cannot be activated. Also, if at the time of the resolution of the effect of "Yosenju Oyam" you have no available Monster Zones, such as if "Ojama Trio" is activated in a chain to the activation of the effect of "Yosenju Oyam" so that all your Monster Zones become occupied, "Yosenju Oyam" cannot be Special Summoned, and it is sent from the hand to the Graveyard.[5]
