TCG Rulings

• While "Necrovalley" is active on the field the following rules apply:
  • No effect can take a card in the Graveyard and remove it from play. No exceptions!
  • If a card in the Graveyard can add itself back to the hand or Deck, it DOES work.
  • If a card's effect tries to take another card in the Graveyard and put it back in the hand or Deck, it won't work.
  • If a monster in the Graveyard can Summon itself back to the field, it DOES work.
  • If a card's effect tries to Summon a different monster from the Graveyard, it won't work.
  • If a card targets something in the Graveyard, or looks at cards in the Graveyard, but doesn't disturb their rest, it DOES work. (For example, a card that counts the number of monsters in the Graveyard.)

Mentions in Other Rulings

• Salvage Warrior: You can still activate this effect while Necrovalley is on the field, but you can only Special Summon a Tuner monster from your hand. If you don’t have one, the effect is negated.

• Lava Dragon: If “Lava Dragon’s” effect is activated while “Necrovalley” is activated, the effect does not resolve.

OCG Rulings

• The effect "All "Gravekeeper's" monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF." does not start Chain Link.

• The effect "All "Gravekeeper's" monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF." is not only applied to face-up "Gravekeeper's" monsters in your Monster Zone, but also to face-up "Gravekeeper's" in your opponent's Monster Zone.

• If each player controls a face-up "Necrovalley" in their Field Zone, the effect of each copy is applied. (All face-up "Gravekeeper's" monsters in the Monster Zone gain 1000 ATK and DEF.)

• The effect "Negate any card effect that would move a card in the Graveyard to a different place. Negate any card effect that changes Types or Attributes in the Graveyard." does not start Chain Link.

Q&A Rulings

• Q: "Necrovalley" is face-up in my opponent's Field Zone. In this situation, if I activate the second effect of "Altergeist Marionetter", targeting an "Altergeist Camouflage" in my Spell & Trap Zone and "Altergeist Silquitous" in the Graveyard, what happens?

A: The effect of "Altergeist Marionetter", which sends the targeted "Altergeist" card on the field to the Graveyard and Special Summons the other targeted "Altergeist" monster from the Graveyard, is an effect that would be applied to a card in the Graveyard, so it is negated by the effect of "Necrovalley". (In this scenario, the targeted "Altergeist Camouflage" on the field is not sent to the Graveyard.)

• Q: "Necrovalley" is face-up in my opponent's Field Zone, also "Altergeist Protocol" is face-up in my Spell & Trap Zone. In this situation, if I activate the second effect of "Altergeist Marionetter", targeting "Altergeist Protocol" on the field and "Altergeist Hexstia" in the Graveyard, what happens?

A: In this scenario, since the effect of "Altergeist Protocol" is applying, the effect of "Altergeist Marionetter" will not be negated by "Necrovalley". However, since the targeted "Altergeist Protocol" is sent to the Graveyard when resolving the effect of "Altergeist Marionetter", its effect stops applying, and "Altergeist Hexstia" cannot be Special Summoned due to the effect of "Necrovalley". Note that if this scenario occurred with "Altergeist Marionetter" being targeted with its own effect, so that "Altergeist Protocol" remained on the field throughout the resolution of the effect, the effect of "Altergeist Marionetter" resolves normally.

Versus Specific Cards

• ABC-Dragon Buster: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard. If you control "A-Assault Core", "B-Buster Drake", and "C-Crush Wyvern", you can Special Summon "ABC-Dragon Buster" by banishing those 3 cards you control.

• Chosen of Zefra: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, during the resolution of the effect "● 10" of "Chosen of Zefra", if your opponent has 1 or more cards in their Graveyard, since the effect would affect cards in the Graveyard, the effect is negated by "Necrovalley". Also, during the resolution of the effect "● 10" of "Chosen of Zefra", if your opponent has no cards in their Graveyard, since the effect would not affect cards in the Graveyard, the effect is applied normally. (All cards on the opponent's hand and field are shuffled into the Deck.)

• Crystron Entry: The effect "Special Summon 2 "Crystron" Tuners (1 from your hand and 1 from your Graveyard)." is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Crystron Entry" can be activated, but its effect is negated by "Necrovalley". (No monsters are Special Summoned from your hand or Graveyard.)

• Crystron Phoenix: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, if "Crystron Phoenix" is Synchro Summoned while your opponent has a Spell/Trap Card in their Graveyard, the effect of "Crystron Phoenix" cannot be activated. If "Crystron Phoenix" is Synchro Summoned while your opponent has no Spell/Trap Cards in their Graveyard, the effect of "Crystron Phoenix" can be activated, and all Spell/Trap Cards your opponent controls are banished. ("Necrovalley" is also banished.)

• Cyber Angel Vrash: Shuffling 1 Ritual Monster from your Graveyard into the Deck is a cost to activate the effect "negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.". Since it is not an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, the effect is not negated by "Necrovalley", and it is resolved normally.

• Darklord: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Darklord Ixchel" etc. can be activated. However, since the effect of "Darklord Ixchel" etc. is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, it is negated by "Necrovalley". (The resolution of "apply that target's effect" and the resolution of "then shuffle that target into the Deck" are not applied.)

• Debunk: If "Debunk" is activated in a Chain to the activation of the effect of a "Gravekeeper's Nobleman" in the Graveyard, "Debunk" is treated as an effect that banishes cards from the Graveyard. • Fairy Tail - Snow: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard. The effect of "Fairy Tail - Snow" cannot be activated from the Graveyard unless you can banish 7 cards from your hand and/or field as a cost. (Even if 1 of the 7 banished cards is "Necrovalley", you cannot banish cards from the Graveyard when the effect is activated from the Graveyard.) Since the effect of "Fairy Tail - Snow" is an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, if you do not banish "Necrovalley" as a cost to activate its effect, the effect of "Fairy Tail - Snow" is negated.

• Silent Graveyard: The effect of "Silent Graveyard" is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Silent Graveyard" can be activated and it is resolved normally. (It is not negated by "Necrovalley".)

• Gemini monster: The effect "This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard." of "Ancient Gear Knight" is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Therefore, even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Ancient Gear Knight" is treated as a Normal Monster while it is in the Graveyard.

• Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, since the effect that Special Summons "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, the effect cannot be applied. (You cannot return 1 "Dark World" monster you control to the hand.)

• Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, if the effect of "Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest" is activated from the hand, since it will be Special Summoned from the hand, it is not affected by "Necrovalley", and it is Special Summoned normally. If the effect of "Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest" is activated from the Graveyard, since it will be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, it is treated as an effect that affects the Graveyard, and the effect is negated by "Necrovalley".

• Hieratic: Even if "Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb" etc. is Tributed while the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, its effect is still activated. During the resolution, Special Summon 1 "Hieratic" Normal Monster from your hand or Deck. (If you only have "Hieratic" Normal Monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb" etc. is not applied.)

• Igknight: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the Pendulum Effect of "Igknight Squire" etc. can be activated. During the resolution, add 1 FIRE Warrior-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. (If you only have FIRE Warrior-Type monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Igknight Squire" etc. is not applied.)

• Illusion Magic: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Illusion Magic" can be activated. During the resolution, add up to 2 copies of "Dark Magician" from your Deck to your hand. (If you only have copies of "Dark Magician" in your Graveyard, the effect of "Illusion Magic" is not applied.)

• Inferno Reckless Summon: Suppose you activate "Inferno Reckless Summon" when you Special Summon "Hardened Armed Dragon" while your opponent controls "Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier" and "Necrovalley".
  • The player who activated "Inferno Reckless Summon" Special Summons as many copies of "Hardened Armed Dragon" as possible from their hand and Deck, but not from the Graveyard. (Even if the player who activated "Inferno Reckless Summon" cannot Special Summon because it only has copies of "Hardened Armed Dragon" in the Graveyard, their opponent still performs the Special Summon.)
  • Your opponent Special Summons as many copies of "Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier" as possible from their hand and Deck, but not from the Graveyard. (Even if your opponent cannot Special Summon because it only has copies of "Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier" in the Graveyard, the player who activated "Inferno Reckless Summon" still performs the Special Summon.)

• Infernoid Onuncu: "Must be Special Summoned (from your hand or Graveyard) by banishing 3 "Infernoid" monsters from your hand or Graveyard while the total Levels and Ranks of all Effect Monsters you control are 8 or lower, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways." is not treated as an effect. Since it is a procedure to Special Summon a Special Summon Monster, even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Infernoid Onuncu" can be Special Summoned from the hand or Graveyard. However, while the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, since cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard, "Infernoid Onuncu" cannot be Special Summoned unless you banish 3 "Infernoid" monsters from your hand.

• Kozmojo: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Kozmojo" can be activated. The resolution of "destroy it" is applied normally, but during the resolution of "banish 1 card your opponent controls or in their Graveyard.", you cannot banish a card from your opponent's Graveyard, and you must banish 1 card your opponent controls.

• Lunalight Black Sheep: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Lunalight Black Sheep" can be activated when it is sent to the Graveyard as a Fusion Material for a Fusion Summon. During the resolution, add 1 face-up "Lunalight" Pendulum Monster from your Extra Deck to your hand. (If you only have "Lunalight " monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Lunalight Black Sheep" is not applied.)

• Madolche Chateau: Since the effect "When this card is activated: Shuffle all "Madolche" monsters in your Graveyard into the Deck." of "Madolche Chateau" is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, the effect is negated by "Necrovalley", but "Madolche Chateau" remains in the Field Zone and the effect "All "Madolche" monsters on the field gain 500 ATK and DEF. " is applied normally. Also, since the effect "Shuffle this card into your Deck." of "Madolche Mewfeuille" is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, that effect is negated by "Necrovalley", and the effect "If a monster(s) in your Graveyard would be returned to the Deck by the effect of a "Madolche" monster, you can add it to your hand instead." of "Madolche Chateau" cannot be applied.

• Madolche Mewfeuille: The effect "Shuffle this card into your Deck." of "Madolche Mewfeuille" is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Madolche Mewfeuille" is still activated when it is destroyed by your opponent and sent to your Graveyard, but the effect is negated by "Necrovalley". ("Madolche Mewfeuille" remains in the Graveyard.)

• Marshmacaron: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Marshmacaron" can be activated when it is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard. During the resolution, if you Special Summon copies of "Marshmacaron" from your hand and/or Deck, the effect is applied normally. If you only have copies of "Marshmacaron" in your Graveyard, the effect of "Marshmacaron" is not applied, and no copies of "Marshmacaron" are Special Summoned.

• Miracle Contact: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Miracle Contact" can be activated. During the resolution, shuffle the Fusion Materials from your hand or Monster Zone into the Deck and Special Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck. If you cannot resolve this card's effect unless you include Fusion Materials in your Graveyard, then the effect of "Miracle Contact" is not applied.

• Nekroz of Sophia: While the effect of "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" (or "Necrovalley") is applying, cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard. If either player has 1 or more cards in their Graveyard, the effect of "Nekroz of Sophia" is treated as an effect that banishes cards from the Graveyard, and it cannot be activated. If neither player has cards in their Graveyard, the effect of "Nekroz of Sophia" can be activated. (All other cards on the field are banished normally.)

• Nekroz of Trishula: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard. Therefore, the effect of "Nekroz of Trishula" cannot be activated when it is Ritual Summoned.

• Performapal Trump Witch: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the monster effect of "Performapal Trump Witch" can be activated. During the resolution, add 1 "Polymerization" from your Deck to your hand. (If you only have copies of "Polymerization" in your Graveyard, the effect of "Performapal Trump Witch" is not applied.)

• Preparation of Rites: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Preparation of Rites" can be activated. In that case, you only add 1 Ritual monster from your Deck to your hand.

• Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" can be activated. During the resolution, Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type monster from your hand. (If you only have Dragon-Type monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" is not applied.)

• Red-Eyes Retro Dragon: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" can be activated from the hand. However, since it is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, it is negated by "Necrovalley". ("Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" is not Special Summoned and remains in the hand, also the monsters destroyed and sent to the Graveyard are not Special Summoned and remain in the Graveyard.)

• Scramble Egg: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Scramble Egg" can be activated. During the resolution, Special Summon 1 "Sonic Chick" from your hand or Deck. (If you only have copies of "Sonic Chick" in your Graveyard, the effect of "Scramble Egg" is not applied.)

• Senior Silver Ninja: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Senior Silver Ninja" can be activated. During the resolution, Special Summon any number of "Ninja" monsters from your hand in face-down Defense Position. (If you only have "Ninja" monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Senior Silver Ninja" is not applied.)

• Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, since the effect of "Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror" is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, the effect is applied normally. (It is not negated by "Necrovalley".) The effect of "Sangan" is not an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, but it is the effect of a DARK monster that is activated from the Graveyard. The effect of "Black Dragon's Chick" is not an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, but it is the effect of a DARK monster that is activated from the field. Therefore, in both cases, the effects are negated by "Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror".

• Sinister Serpent: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Sinister Serpent" can be activated from the Graveyard. However, since it is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, it is negated by "Necrovalley". (It is not returned to your hand.) • Stardust Re-Spark: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Stardust Re-Spark" can be activated. The resolution of "Negate the attack, and if you do, draw 1 card" is applied normally, and you can Special Summon 1 "Stardust" monster from your Extra Deck. (You cannot Special Summon 1 "Stardust" monster from your Graveyard.)

• Sylvan Princessprout: The effect "Special Summon this card from the Graveyard, and if you do, it becomes that Level." of "Sylvan Princessprout" is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Sylvan Princessprout" can be activated when it is excavated from the Deck and sent to the Graveyard, but the effect is negated by "Necrovalley". ("Sylvan Princessprout" remains in the Graveyard.)

• Tamtam the Melodious Diva: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Tamtam the Melodious Diva" can be activated when it is Special Summoned. During the resolution, add 1 "Polymerization" from your Deck to your hand. (If you only have copies of "Polymerization" in your Graveyard, the effect of "Tamtam the Melodious Diva" is not applied.)

• The End of Anubis: While the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, since the effect of "The End of Anubis" is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, the effect is applied normally. (It is not negated by "Necrovalley".)

• The Supremacy Sun: The effect that Special Summons "The Supremacy Sun" from the Graveyard is treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. If the effect of "The Supremacy Sun" is activated while the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect is negated by "Necrovalley" and "The Supremacy Sun" is not Special Summoned. ("The Supremacy Sun" remains in the Graveyard.)

• Tragoedia: The effect "this card's Level becomes the same as that target's, until the end of this turn." targets a monster in the Graveyard, but it is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Therefore, even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Tragoedia" is applied normally and its Level is changed. (If this effect is activated by targeting "Glow-Up Bulb", the Level of Tragoedia becomes 1.)

• Trick Box: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Trick Box" can be activated. However, since it is an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard, it is negated by "Necrovalley". (The resolution of "take control of it until the End Phase" and the resolution of "Special Summon 1 "Performage" monster from your Graveyard to your opponent's field." are not applied.)

• Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier: While the effect of "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" (or "Necrovalley") is applying, cards cannot be banished from the Graveyard. Even in this case, the effect of "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" can be activated, but you can only banish up to 2 cards (up to 1 from your opponent's hand and up to 1 from your opponent's field.) Even if you banish "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" or "Necrovalley" during the resolution of the effect of "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier", you still cannot banish a card from the Graveyard.

• True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer" can be activated. (The effect of "True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer" is not negated by "Necrovalley".) During the resolution of the effect "you can banish up to 2 Spell/Trap Cards from your opponent's field and/or Graveyard, if both the destroyed monsters were WATER.", you cannot banish Spell/Trap Cards from your opponent's Graveyard. (You must banish up to 2 Spell/Trap Cards your opponent controls.)

• Wightprincess: The effect "This card's name becomes "Skull Servant" while it is in the Graveyard." is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Therefore, even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the name of "Wightprincess" is treated as "Skull Servant" while it is in the Graveyard.

• Windwitch - Crystal Bell: The effect "until the End Phase, this card's name becomes that monster's, and replace this effect with that monster's original effects." targets a monster in the Graveyard, but it is not treated as an effect that affects cards in the Graveyard. Therefore, even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect of "Windwitch - Crystal Bell" is applied normally, its name becomes the same as the targeted monster and it gains the effect of the targeted monster. (If this effect is activated by targeting "Windwitch - Winter Bell", the name of Windwitch - Crystal Bell becomes "Windwitch - Winter Bell" and it gains the effect of "Windwitch - Winter Bell".)

• Xyz Encore: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, "Xyz Encore" can be activated. The resolution of "detach all Xyz Materials from it, and if you do, return it to the Extra Deck" is applied normally, but even if there is a Monster Card in the Graveyard among those detached Xyz Materials, the resolution of "Special Summon as many of those monsters as possible from the Graveyard to your opponent's side of the field in face-up Defense Position." cannot be applied.

• Yosen Training Grounds: Even if the effect of "Necrovalley" is applying, the effect "● 3 Counters" of "Yosen Training Grounds" can be activated. During the resolution, add 1 "Yosenju" monster from your Deck to your hand. (If you only have "Yosenju" monsters in your Graveyard, the effect of "Yosen Training Grounds" is not applied.)

Previously Official Rulings

• "Necrovalley" negates any effect that targets a card or cards in the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" WILL negate the effect of: "Monster Reborn", "Premature Burial", "Call of the Haunted", "Question", "Backup Soldier", "Spear Cretin", "The Shallow Grave", "Magician of Faith", "Fiber Jar", "Penguin Knight", and "Agido".

• "Necrovalley" negates costs and effects that require removing cards from the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" WILL prevent a player from removing cards in the Graveyard from play to activate the effect of "Bazoo the Soul-Eater" or "Chaosrider Gustaph". "Necrovalley" WILL prevent a player from removing cards in the Graveyard from play to Special Summon "Dark Necrofear" or "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning". "Necrovalley" WILL negate card effects like "Big Burn", "Gravedigger Ghoul", "Disappear", and "Soul Release".

• "Necrovalley" will NOT negate effects that are activated when a card is sent TO the Graveyard or that activate IN the Graveyard or that count cards in the Graveyard. So it will NOT negate the effects of "Sangan", "Witch of the Black Forest", "Black Pendant", "Giant Rat", "Mystic Tomato", "Kuriboh", "Graceful Charity", "Sinister Serpent", "Marie the Fallen One", "Buster Blader", "Shadow Ghoul", "Helpoemer", "Sword of Deep-Seated", "Vampire Lord", "Coffin Seller", and "Magical Thorn".

• If "Necrovalley" is on the field, you can Special Summon "Gilasaurus" using its effect, but the effect that lets your opponent Special Summon is negated.

• If the effect of "Necrovalley" is negated by "Imperial Order", then cards that require "Necrovalley" on the field, such as "Gravekeeper's Assailant", etc., can still apply their effects because "Necrovalley" is still on the field.

• If "Necrovalley" is active, neither player may activate "Book of Life".

• If "Necrovalley" is active and you Special Summon the Spell Card "Gravekeeper's Servant" with "Magical Hats", its ATK and DEF will be 500.

Mentions in Other Rulings

• A Cat of Ill Omen / An Owl of Luck: If "Imperial Order" & "Necrovalley" are both active, and "A Cat of Ill Omen"/"An Owl of Luck" is flipped, you add the card to your hand because "Necrovalley" is face-up on the field, even though its effect is negated.

• Gravekeeper's Chief: If "Necrovalley" is on the field, and both players control a "Gravekeeper's Chief", then the Flip Effect of "Fiber Jar" can resolve normally, but if neither, or only 1, player has "Gravekeeper's Chief", then the Flip Effect of "Fiber Jar" disappears.

• Gravekeeper's Spy: You can select a Gravekeeper whose ATK would be higher than 1500 after being Summoned. For example, if "Necrovalley" is in play, you can use "Gravekeeper's Spy" to Special Summon another "Gravekeeper's Spy", even though its ATK will be 1700 once it is on the field.
