OCG Rulings
- The effect "Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster on the field that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck; change it to face-down Defense Position." is a Quick Effect. (Detaching 1 Xyz Material from this card is a cost to activate this effect. It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.)[1]
- This effect targets 1 face-up monster in the Monster Zone that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. (It can target 1 monster in your Monster Zone or your opponent's Monster Zone.)[1]
- The effect "If this face-up card in its owner's control is sent to your Graveyard or banished by your opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon this card in face-down Defense Position." is a Trigger Effect. (It does not target. It can be activated during the Damage Step.)[1]
- The effect "If this card is flipped face-up: Send 1 card on the field to the Graveyard." is a Trigger Effect that is always activated when "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is flipped face-up. (It does not target. It is also activated during the Damage Step.)[1]
Q&A Rulings
- Q: A "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck is face-up on my opponent's field. In this situation, if I activate the Pendulum Effect of "Performapal Whim Witch", but my opponent chains the effect of "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" and changes it to face-down Defense Position, what happens?
- A: The Pendulum Effect of "Performapal Whim Witch" can be activated if your opponent controls a monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, while you do not. In this scenario, when resolving the effect, even if the monster on your opponent's field that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck has been changed to face-down Defense Position, the activated effect of "Performapal Whim Witch" resolves normally, and it is Special Summoned.[2]
- Q: If there are no monsters in my Main Monster Zone, but a "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" in my Extra Monster Zone is in face-down Defense Position, can I Special Summon "Tindangle Base Gardna" from my hand with its own effect?
- A: Even if you do not have any face-down Defense Position monsters in your Main Monster Zone, if you have a face-down Defense Position monster in the Extra Monster Zone, you can Special Summon "Tindangle Base Gardna" with its effect.[3]
- Q: The first effect of "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" was activated by targeting itself, and it was changed to face-down Defense Position. Afterward, if "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is flipped face-up again, can it be changed to face-down Defense Position by its own effect once more?
- A: In this scenario, after "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is changed to face-down Defense Position by its own effect, it is no longer treated as a monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. Therefore, even if it is flipped face-up again, it cannot be targeted by its own effect that changes a monster to face-down Defense Position.[4]
- Q: If a face-up "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is returned to my Extra Deck by the effect of my opponent's "Compulsory Evacuation Device", can I activate the effect of "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" that Special Summons it in face-down Defense Position?
- A: If "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is returned to your Extra Deck by the effect of your opponent's "Compulsory Evacuation Device", you cannot activate its effect that Special Summons it in face-down Defense Position.[5]
- Q: Due to the effect of "Creature Swap", a face-up "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" that I own is on my opponent's field. If "Dark Hole" is activated in this situation, and "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, can I activate its effect that Special Summons it in face-down Defense Position?
- A: In this situation, if "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is destroyed by "Dark Hole", it is not considered to leave your field by your opponent's card effect. Therefore, you cannot activate the effect of "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" in your Graveyard.[6]
- Q: If "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is flipped face-up while there are no other cards on the field, how will its third effect be applied?
- A: In this scenario, if "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" is flipped face-up while there are no other cards on the field, its effect that sends 1 card on the field to the Graveyard will still activate. In that case, "Number 24: Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon" must be sent to the Graveyard.[7]
