- CLARIFICATION:
- The effect of “Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame” activates when monsters are destroyed and sent to the Graveyard at the end of the Damage Step. This is the same timing as the effects of cards like “Hydrogeddon,” “Blue Thunder T-45,” “Goyo Guardian,” and “Elemental Hero Flame Wingman” [sic].
- In order for its effect to activate, “Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame” must be face-up on the field when the monster it destroyed by battle is sent to the Graveyard. This means:
- If Shura and the other monster destroy each other by battle (equal ATK), Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is destroyed by a Flip Effect like “Man-Eater Bug,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is flipped face-down after damage calculation by a card effect, such as “Desertapir,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is removed from play [sic] by battling “D.D. Warrior,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is destroyed by an effect after the monster it destroyed by battle was sent to the Graveyard, such as “Michizure,” Shura’s effect DOES activate, and you can Special Summon a monster.
- NOTE: These rules also apply to any other monster with the text “When this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard….” (Examples: “Hydrogeddon,” “Goyo Guardian,” or “Elemental Hero Flame Wingman” [sic].)
- These rules do NOT apply to monsters with the text “When this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle….” (but does not specify “and sends it to the Graveyard”). (Example: “Blue Thunder T-45”.) Monsters with that text will activate their effects in ALL of the above scenarios.
OCG Rulings
- If a monster that cannot be Special Summoned is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, this effect cannot be activated.[1]
- If a "Number 32: Shark Drake" you control destroys an opponent's monster that you own in battle and sends it to the Graveyard, the effect can be activated. Also, the monster destroyed on the opponent's side of the field and sent to your Graveyard is Special Summoned from your Graveyard to the opponent's side of the field.[2]
- If "Number 32: Shark Drake" activates its effect, Special Summoning the monster that was destroyed in battle in face-up Attack Position, before "Number 32: Shark Drake" attacks, a Quick-Play Spell Card or Trap Card can be activated. Also, if at the time "Number 32: Shark Drake" would attack once again the opponent's monster that was Special Summoned has left the field and the opponent controls no monsters, "Number 32: Shark Drake" can attack the opponent directly.[3]
- Even if a monster with less than 1000 ATK is destroyed in battle by "Number 32: Shark Drake", it can be Special Summoned with the effect of "Number 32: Shark Drake". Also, if a monster with less than 1000 ATK is Special Summoned, its ATK is treated as 0. Furthermore, if "Rush Recklessly" is used on a monster with an original ATK of less than 1000 that is Special Summoned by the effect of "Number 32: Shark Drake", its ATK is recalculated.
- For example, if "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Number 32: Shark Drake", at the time its Special Summoned its ATK is 0, but if "Rush Recklessly" is activated afterwards, from the addition of the original ATK of 800 plus the 700 from "Rush Recklessly" for a total of 1500, 1000 ATK is substracted by the effect of "Number 32: Shark Drake", so that the end result for "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" ATK is 500. In addition, once the effect of "Rush Recklessly" is no longer applied, the ATK of "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" returns to 0.[4]
- A "Number 32: Shark Drake" that is already able to attack twice by being equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce" can activate its effect. Also, if a monster is Special Summoned with the effect of "Number 32: Shark Drake", the "Number 32: Shark Drake" equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce" can only attack up to twice and is unable to attack three times.[5]
