Q&A Rulings

  • Q: "Vanity's Emptiness" is face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect that prevents players from Special Summoning is applying. In this situation, can I activate "The Deep Grave"?
A: Even if the effect of "Vanity's Emptiness" is applying, you can activate "The Deep Grave". After that, if the effect of "Vanity's Emptiness" is not applying by the time you reach your next Standby Phase, the targeted monster will be Special Summoned normally. (If the effect of "Vanity's Emptiness" is still applying at that time, you do not Special Summon.)[1][2]
A: When "The Deep Grave" is activated, "Solemn Warning" can be chained to it. However, when the monster is Special Summoned from the Graveyard during your next Standby Phase, "Solemn Warning" cannot be activated.[3][2]
  • Q: "Barrier Statue of the Inferno" is face-up in my opponent's Monster Zone, and its effect that prevents players from Special Summoning non-FIRE monsters is applying. In this situation, if I activate "The Deep Grave", can I target a monster other than a FIRE monster?
A: Even if the effect of "Barrier Statue of the Inferno" is applying, you can activate "The Deep Grave" targeting a monster other than a FIRE monster. If the effect of "Barrier Statue of the Inferno" is no longer applying during your next Standby Phase, you can Special Summon the targeted monster as usual. (If its effect is still applying during your next Standby Phase, you do not Special Summon.)[4][5]
