Card Rulings:The Unfriendly Amazon
OCG Rulings
- "Tribute 1 of your monsters on the field (excluding this monster) during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, this card is destroyed" is not treated as an effect. It is a maintenance cost to keep "The Unfriendly Amazon" on the field. (It does not make a Chain Link.)[1]
- During your Standby Phase, you choose whether or not to Tribute a monster to keep "The Unfriendly Amazon" on the field. (If you choose to Tribute a monster, you can also Tribute a face-down Defense Position monster in your Monster Zone, as long as it is a monster other than "The Unfriendly Amazon" itself.)[1]
- If you choose not to Tribute a monster, or if there are no monsters in your Monster Zone other than "The Unfriendly Amazon" itself, "The Unfriendly Amazon" itself is destroyed. (It is not treated as being destroyed by an effect.)[1]
- "The Unfriendly Amazon" is treated as an Effect Monster, but it is a monster that does not have any effects.[1]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[2] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - Skill Drain: While "Skill Drain" is active, "maintenance costs" are not negated [...] so you still have to pay for "The Unfriendly Amazon"...
