OCG Rulings

  • "Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned with "Rise of the Snake Deity" and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways except by its own effect" is not treated as an effect. (This card can only be Special Summoned from the hand or Deck by the effect of "Rise of the Snake Deity". This card can only be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by its own effect.)[1]
  • The effect that makes this card gain 500 ATK for each Reptile monster in your Graveyard is a Continuous Effect.[1]
  • The effect that makes this card be unaffected by, and unable to be targeted by, other cards and effects is a Continuous Effect.[1]
  • The effect that Special Summons this card is a Trigger Effect that can optionally be activated when "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard (= at the end of the Damage Step). (It activates in the Graveyard. It does not target. Also, banishing 1 other Reptile monster from your Graveyard is a cost to activate this effect.)[1]
  • "When 3 Hyper-Venom Counters are on this card, you win the Duel" is not treated as a monster effect. It is a Victory condition.[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" can be Special Summoned by its own effect only if it was Special Summoned by the effect of "Rise of the Snake Deity". Therefore, if a "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" that was Special Summoned by "A Wild Monster Appears!" is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, the effect that Special Summons "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" cannot be activated.[2]
A: If "Skill Drain" is activated while "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" is already face-up on the field, since "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" is unaffected by Trap Card's effects, its effects are not negated by "Skill Drain". Also, if "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" is Special Summoned while the effect of "Skill Drain" is already applying, the effects of "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" are negated by "Skill Drain".[3]
A: In this scenario, since the effect of "Tyrant's Tirade" is applying, neither player can activate monster effects that activate in the hand or field. Therefore, in this case, even if "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" inflicts battle damage to the opponent, the effect that places 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on itself does not activate.[4]
A: If the effect of "Ghost Fairy Elfobia" that was activated by revealing a Level 9 or lower monster is applying, the monster effects of the Level 10 "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" cannot be activated. Therefore, in this case, even if "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" inflicts battle damage to the opponent, the effect that places 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on itself does not activate.[5]
A: In this case, since the effect of the opponent's "Triamid Kingolem" that prevents the activation of cards and effects until the end of the Damage Step is applying, even if your "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes" inflicts battle damage to the opponent, the effect that places 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on itself does not activate.[6]
