'''Detaching''' ({{Ruby|取|と}}り{{Ruby|除|のぞ}}く ''Torinozoku'') is a method of [[send]]ing an [[Xyz Material]] [[attach]]ed to an [[Xyz Monster]] to the [[Graveyard]].

While detached cards are normally sent to the Graveyard, some [[card effect]]s can cause detached cards to be moved to another location instead. Even if they are not sent to the Graveyard, they are still considered to be detached. For example, even while "[[Macro Cosmos]]" is active, the [[cost]] of cards such as "[[Number 39: Utopia]]" can still be paid.

Because Xyz Materials are not on the field, detached Xyz Materials are not considered to [[Leaves the field|leave the field]]. Additionally, because Xyz Materials are not treated as any particular [[card type]], they are unaffected by cards such as "[[Dimensional Fissure]]" when detached.
