Biography[edit]

The Sacred Cards[edit]

The player defeated two of Espa's brothers in Duels, prompting them to call Espa. Espa claimed to have psychic powers and offered the player a chance to run or face him in a Duel with a Locator Card on the line, as punishment for picking on his brothers. The player proceeded to win the Duel.

Espa demanded that the player not look down on him and his brothers and spoke of how he used cards to protect his brothers from people who looked down on and teased them. The player was given a chance to agree or disagree that Espa needed cards to protect his brothers.

  • If the player responded with "true", Espa accused him of looking down on them and angrily leave.
  • If the player responded with "no", Espa assumed the player was only taking pity. But his brothers told him that was not true and he had put up a strong fight. After that, Espa accepted further challenges from the player.

At some point, Espa defeated a generic Duelist, who then decided to take a break from Dueling and went to the arcade in the building.

Espa and his brothers were attacked by the Ghouls and forced out of the alley they hung out in. Espa continued to accept challenges from the player after this. The player spoke to him when looking for Joey Wheeler and Tea Gardner, after they were taken captive by the Ghouls. Each time the player defeated Espa, Espa notified him of where to go to find a lead, initially telling him where to find Ghouls he not yet defeated, then telling him to check the toy shop, KaibaCorp headquarters, the building, the art gallery or the pier, depending on how far the player had progressed in their search.

After Joey and Tea are saved, Espa stops accepting Duels from the player and instead wishes him luck in the finals.
