Forum:Alternate Yugioh Gaming

I was wondering if any of you have used yugioh cards to play a game apart from dueling. Like using your own battle system (possibly using battle formulas) and such, maybe like an RPG, because sometimes I just get tired of dueling and my cards sit there doing nothing. It'd be cool to hear some ideas/if anybody is willing to make up a game with me :P These cards have a lot of potential for another game, but I just don't know how xD 76.231.84.177 (talk) 06:28, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

Dragon Cards

You can do the Dragon Cardss game from the Manga. Jamesfury (talkcontribs) 07:38, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

Self-Imposed Challenge

Okay, so it's not too different from dueling, but playing with certain handicaps or altered game mechanics can mix up how you duel a bit. Think of it like those "special rule duels" in WC2010. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 14:56, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

I heard from youtube about this version of dueling called a war duel where there is one deck, and players take turns drawing from the same deck. Most of the cards are Vanilla Cards so its a good way to have a balanced duel with your unused, cool cards.Trak0don (talkcontribs) 16:16, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

MOAR IDEAS XD

I was also thinking: what if you gave each card different attacks/effects? A bit like pokemon or something, but you'd have a mana pool, like most medieval RPG's ex: Dark Magician, giving him his classic "Dark Magic Attack", making it do substantial damage, but giving him something like "Magic Summon" and summoning another Spellcaster or something. Also, to stray from the dueling set-up, use something kind of like dungeon dice monsters, where you have your monsters on a 3D field (technically 2D...but you get what I mean), and they would move around on like a chess board or something.

Shinkirou Says

My friends and I have imitated styles they show in the show.

Deck masters - Each person submits a deck master have everyone agree on weather it is balanced or not, and follow the shows rules (sorta)
The labyrinth idea was unbalanced in the show so I don't really like it.
Team matches with homebrew rules so as to make it more fair for people who don't use cards like Final Countdown.
Fatal Matches (Pit Duels) - Duels where all players (usually 4) are against each other. This is generally less fun as team ups can be down right trollish.
Custom cards - again like deck masters usually it is smarter to limit the number of cards you can make or test them with a friend to make sure they are balanced.

All of this being said usually when the game is getting boring it is best just to make a new deck with a new theme to it and play using that. I have made many decks Back fire, Gravekeeper's, Choas, Dragon, Spell counter, Cloudian, Gemini, Warrior, Zombie, Venom, Six Sam, Synchro heavy, Cybers, etc. No matter how many decks I make it is usually refreshing to play using some thing different. Any way hope you find something fun for you, ah I know I can make a new game type called Sparta.

Sparta Match - Needs 100 cards, 15 card extra deck
Basically like a normal tourney but you play only 1 match and any card that is banished or sent to the graveyard is removed from the game after that match is over. And you replace it with a card from your side deck (The other 60 cards). If you would ever have 25 or less cards in your deck you add all removed cards to your extra deck.
Alternate victory conditions are removed (Exodia, Final/Death, Final Countdown, Etc). Cards that Added to your deck (by pot of avarice, etc) must be decided before the tournament weather or not they will be removed from the game after the match as I don't know which would be more fair.

My friends have tried magic the gathering VS ygo, not really play magic with those cards only mind you. Yeah one got annoyed because we couldn't figure out mana costs for Dark Hole and the such, making them incredibly broken.

I know I've tried Duelist of the Roses style with this large sheet of grid paper before. Playing with newer effect types is weird with that. 173.75.82.74 (talk) 20:33, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

simple but fun

I made a rule that you can only use cards that are released between a certain time. When i used it for instance we made retro decks with only cards between LOB and FET it were some fun duels (also because i could Rescue Cat) because it was simple, long and fun.

You could also limit number of cards played per turn, or use card effect as duel rules. Dark Elwin (talkcontribs) 17:53, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
