Forum:Am I the only one who misses Season 0 and the original manga?

Like honestly. The original manga with the shadow games and the delusions and penalty games and Yami being such a evil bad-ass. And Kaiba`s green hair haha. I honestly believe this would have such less hate if it didn`t become ALL about THE FLIPPIN` CARDS. It`s embarrassing saying this has to be one of my favorite manga`s and anime`s because people think I mean the CARD GAME. I DON`T. I mean the original good stuff everyone's seem to forgot. Am I the only one who wished the original story line had continued, and the new series never existed with all these cards and children`s card games. I think this series could have gotten far more respect if it didn`t become such a joke to so many people. I want Season 0 back.

Yeah pretty much.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 08:33, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

You're most likely in the wrong place, as most people here knew the newer card games before season 0. Moreover, all of us here love the "pitty card game" you so hatefully talk about.

I only started seeing Season 0 after I finished viewing the chapters I wanted to see of Yugioh Gx and Yugidoh 5d.

On the other hand, I've to admit that the first season is far superior than most of the YuGiOh sagas, particularly for it's time. It's a kinda "Saw-ish" serie, with a complete "Grey" heroe (you are never sure if he is the heroe at all), interesting battles of wits, and the concept that every game can be a battle if taken to illogical extremes.

But you should be aware that YuGiOh season 0 downfall was NOT the card game. Many plot elements started to grow as a tumor on the story, deleting previous interesting plot points.

  • The evil spirit was now a pharaon and had nothing to do with an alter-ego of Yugi.
  • The duels became more childish and less deadly (a yo-yo battle where the loser gets... hit in the face? really?).
  • There were no punishment for loosing, or really lame punishments. ("His heart is in peaces, he will have to assamble it")
  • Friendship was a force that suddenly solved all the problems.
  • etc.

Truth be told, the card game is most likely what saved the series from getting worse. Originally the serie was about suspense and drama, but without the maturity the plot originally had, the games just got duller and duller.

Until the card game tournaments took place, giving us something new to feel drama and suspense about. It was a game of luck and strategy, where every draw counted.

Have that in mind next time. ;)

It is hard to say. I honestly have not watched anything past episode 6 of the original anime. I have all 27 episodes that Nihon subbed downloaded though, and I plan to watch them and the entire Duel Monsters series (I imported all 52 volumes from Japan, no subs, but oh well), but honestly, I prefer the later stuff. Once they started going all into Egyptian mythology is where I really started to love the series as I am a fanatic for anything relating to mythology, especially Egyptian (my favorite followed by Norse and Babylonian (which we don't have enough of)).

No, the original manga wasn't getting worse because the non-yugioh plot. It was about it, and even when the yugioh part began was the non-yugioh part fun to read. What i think was really stupid was making the anime really melodramatic. The original manga was really great and the first anime also, but after that with GX and stuff it became really lame. I knew about the original series before I watched the "card game" part of Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I gotta say, season 0 sucked. IPlay4Fun (talkcontribs) 21:14, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

Never watched the anime, but the manga was pretty BADASS. LIke when he put the coins and the scorpions in the sneaker and they had to grab the coins out, or when Yami made the maze out of spraypaint and lit those thugs on fire! It was awesome!!

That show was definitely awesome and really dark. I wonder if the ancient egyptian storyline would have continued, where they slowly realize yami was an egyptian pharaoh. Maybe they would have to go to egypt and make their way through a pyramid to get to his tomb or something cool like that.

It was a pretty neat concept, really. 148.100.148.222 (talk) 13:43, May 17, 2012 (UTC)
