Forum:Deck Contest 58: A Challenger Appears

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

While we were holding the previous WDC, NECH was released OCG-side, bringing with it many new toys and a few new archetypes as per usual. And it is by tradition that when new content appears, we jump in and investigate!

But as addressed the last time we tried to cover the Korean exclusives, this contest will also cover any notable Korean cards from DUEA. Don't worry, TCG exclusives will get their time to shine once they release proper.

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG cards are fine, as long as it has been released proper.
  • Deck must be in Template:Decklist.
  • This contest will utilize the July 14th, 2014 TCG Banlist.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • Deck submissions will open on 8th August 2014 and close on 10th August 2014.

Thanks for setting up the submissions part. I knew I forgot something. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 03:14, August 9, 2014 (UTC)

Chromace disqualified for failing to submit before the deadline. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 10:12, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know if it was a typo, but you said: Deck submissions will open on 8th August 2014 and close on 17th August 2014. Which gives him a few more days. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 15:40, August 12, 2014 (UTC)
That's true, but that's also a very large window for deck submissions. Maybe just give him a quick reminder on his talk page? --Dark Ace SP (TalkPage) 02:52, August 13, 2014 (UTC)
Damn, that was one hell of a typo. Was thinking the 10th. Will give Chromace a reminder and finalize the DQ if he doesn't respond by tomorrow. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 16:40, August 13, 2014 (UTC)

Chromace's Deck

Hallelujah! Hallelujah, Hallelujah! Halle-lu-jah!

The Melodious Archetype has an emphasis on special summoning as an end in itself (that is, gaining effects from the summoning), rather than as a means to an end, such as with Blackwings (that is, setting the stage for Synchros).

Sure, they can always whip out a simple XYZ with Canon floating around, but that isn't really what they appear to be made for.

Instead, most of them are able to stand their ground by themselves, either with effects like that of Aria's, which prevents Melodius cards from being targeted by card effects, or being destroyed by battle, or by virtue of fairly high defense points (that is, Serena and Canon). To reinforce this idea, there's Sonata and Elegy, who both boost ATK points for an increased ability to destroy other monsters. And anything that can't be handled by that can always be nerfed by Lance.

To make the most of them, cards which are able to special summon the Melodious are neccessary, so much of the deck is composed of them. Their native support, Solo FM, has proven to be quite useful for searching out Aria as an opening move, but finds little much after the first few turns, so is limited to two copies only.

Furthermore, Photon Lead can be very helpful in triggering Aria's effect (she's so important, she gets her own cards...sorta, Serena is also a candidate if Mozart or Francois is available for tribute summoning). On a more generic note, there's Soul Charge times three and a Pinpoint Guard to deal with graveyard summons, and two Monks as a way of using those spare Lances or Leads. Dark Ace SP's Deck

So Normals. The vanilla flavor that Yu-Gi-Oh! was built on, and quickly abandoned when good Effect Monsters rolled in. I could have taken the easy route and stuffed in a pair of Dragon's Mirror into Ojama or Penguins, but no. I went with the Poker Knights. That three card suit that Atem always used to summon Slifer, and for some reason, the only people smart enough to try and stop Queen's Knight were Kaiba and Yugi.

Anyway, the goal of the deck is to get Queen onto the field, so Shining Angel is your go-to royal servant. Set Angel, let it die, multiple times if needed, and finish with a Queen's Knight on the field. Then summon King's Knight and get Jack's Knight from your deck. That's the basics. I can choose to make a quick Rank 4, or if I have Instant Fusion, I can make Pleiades or Tiras using Giltia the D. Knight. Instant also lets me summon Noden, who can revive a Queen's Knight for King's effect. If I can't do my basic play, then a Queen's Knight and Noble Knight Gawayn work just as well to let me make a Rank 4. If nothing works, Freed the Brave Wanderer is my go-to assassin. Along with Wyrm from Dragon's Mirror.

Also, Barbaric Feast LV5 is one of my favorite cards in here, it's pretty easy to get 2 Jack's Knight or a Giltia in the grave, and Barbaric opens up those 2 Level 5 Warriors to make a quick Tiras or Pleiades (Usually Tiras as I've already used Pleiades). The rest of the deck is mostly just defense to help Queen's Knight survive.

FonyX's Deck

The Premise of this deck is simple, using the troopers to draw and lots of deck-recycling to balance the deck-thinning. Powerful Rebirth is a special card, that differs from other resurrection traps in that it doesn't kill the monster if it leaves the field, also it increases the level so the troopers (and Mathematician) can xyz for a rank 4. Mist Valley Falcon allows the re-use of powerful rebirth, and lets me return Call of the Haunted, if it is calling a trooper at the time, they are destroyed and I get more draw power. Tuningware and Junk Synchron are sort of a self-regulating combo, powered by the Mathematician and Foolish Burial, and it is easier to get out then it seems, since the monster pool in this deck is so fluid. Scrap-Iron scarecrow takes the heat off my continuous traps, and is just one of the most annoying traps to have to deal with if your opponent doesn't have the tools. The Shaddoll Dragon combo is back, for the instant rank 4 xyz his friend the Druid, especially since if you put it on Number 101, when he negates destruction it destroys a spell or trap. The Seventh One works good with vortex trooper, and is just a good card in general, also since the extra deck space wasn't needed. Black and White Wave, also is very easy to use in this deck, and also since dead draws are easy to recycle with Vortex as well. Neo-Spacian Grand Mole is another just generally good card, and REbirth (and call) won't get destroyed when you bounce it to your hand. The rest is pretty simple, Instant Fusion and Noden, bridging the gap between the two extremes this deck can swing, and being a pre-requisite for Forbidden Trapezohedron, if i don't have the other monsters out, and if I do, Noden can swarm/instant xyz for game. The main reason for all this recycling is to make sure I'll have the monsters available, for this game-ending move. If I had to sum up this entire deck with my next statement, I would say that this deck has all the tools to out-last unprepared opponents, being just unconventional enough to be a surprise and with enough combo-power to go for a flash finish. Thanks for reading. (Also its sad more people didn't enter this contest it had good categories)
