Forum:Toon Deck Help??

Do you guys think you could help tweak my deck? I'm not too sure on what trap cards I should use or how many I should have of each. Like should I run Magic Cylinder or Bottomless Trap Hole? Are there any other trap cards do you think I need? What other combos do you think I can incorporate or improve upon? I'm also not too sure about the monsters I'm running. I'm trying to stay at 40 cards, but I don't mind too much if I go over. I don't play tournaments, just casually! Uh..yeah! Thanks!--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 02:39, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

Are your friends alright with you using banned cards? I ask because Sangan is banned on the current F&L list. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 03:30, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

They don't really care. What card would I use to substitute Sangan? Is there anything else in my deck that I can improve or change? Specifically my traps and monsters? --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 03:43, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

You can always try Summoner Monk instead of Sangan. ---Kungfu-mama (Talk) 15:35, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. Okay! So any recommendations for the deck?? I made a couple revisions cause I felt like I needed more traps. I now have have 15 traps and spells and 20 monsters. Do you think it's too much?--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 20:29, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, 50 cards is too much for any deck, especially toons. The more cards you have, the harder it will be to draw into what you need to draw. Keep it as close to 40 as possible. You need to make cuts to the monster and trap line-up, there's no two ways about it. Try to get the deck down to 42 or 41 cards. I'd consider dropping Magic Cylinder, the Trap Stun (Not really needed with 2 MST), Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon, there's really no big difference between the 1 tribute Skull and the 2 tribute Blue-Eyes, 500 ATK isn't a lot. Also, considering dropping Spell Economics, 1000 LP really isn't a lot, plus there's no real guarantee you'll draw that Spell Economics, it's just not worth the space. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 22:33, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

So here's the third revision. Look good? Any other extra deck monsters I should look at?? I'm at 43 cards now. Thanks!--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 22:47, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

Better. There are other extra deck monsters you can look at, but they get a little more pricey. The easiest way to see more Xyz Monsters is to go to The Yugioh Card Database and search for Xyz monsters that are Rank 4 - 6. Some are cheap and some are more expensive. Also, I think a 2nd Dark Bribe is better than the Anubis, mostly because you can negate either a spell or a trap. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 22:55, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

So anything else I should change to make it better? I can look into prices. I'll also look at the Xyz monsters; any you suggest right off the bat? How many should I have?--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 23:02, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

All you really need is a few Rank 4, 1-2 Rank 6 because we have 3 Magician Girl, 1 Skull, and 1 Tefnuit (Who is in there for the sole purpose of making a Rank 6 first turn), and maybe 1-2 Rank 5 because we have Cyber Dragon and Tragoedia. Also, I included Sword Breaker because of it's high 2700 ATK, and because it has the ability to kill 2 different types of monsters while it's on the field. If you need more clarification see Card Rulings:Sword Breaker. If you have the cash, try to flush out the Extra deck with 10-15 cards. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:13, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

What do you think about Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon, Wind-Up Arsenal Zenmaioh and Alchemic Magician? Just to be clear, the main deck is good? --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 23:50, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

The first two are great, I would also suggest looking at Tiras, Keeper of Genesis, it's sometimes better than Adreus because it can't be killed by card effects and it can destroy any card on the field, while Adreus can only destroy face-up cards. As for Alchemic, it's not totally worth it, plus you'll need all 3 Gemini Elves on the field to summon, if you can summon Alchemic, you might as use Number 16: Shock Master or Vylon Disigma instead. I think the main deck will be fine, it's only for casual fun, so it's probably fine. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:00, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'll pick up Tiras for sure. If I were to become competitive in the future, what changes should I make to the deck? I'm just curious. --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 01:07, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't think Toons have the real ability to be competitive, I know they can be pretty amazing, but when you look at the current Meta and the future cards that will come to the TCG in the latest OCG boosters, life doesn't look too good for our toon friends. They just don't have the speed or effects needed to match better cards. I mean look at cards like Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Cardinal and Harpie Channeler, Toons just don't have the key piece to make them competitive. Although, Konami might pull a Six Samurai Stunt, and suddenly decide to give Toons a few new cards in an upcoming booster pack, which might change things. Although at the moment, no new support is in sight. Sorry for being a buzz kill. However, if it helps you might be able to take a Locals with this, but don't expect anything at a Regionals or Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:41, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
Also, even if I don't think Toons can't be competitive on a large scale level, there are many solid budget decks that can do really well at larger events. Watts and Dark World come to mind. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:46, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps Monarchs, like Macro Monarchs, as well?

Well I don't plan on going to compete in an event that big. If I do, it'll be local. So you think this deck is the good enough to do well in locals and still have fun? Cause in the end, that's what I'm looking for. A fun Toon deck that is also strong and has potential to win smaller events. I haven't pick up the cards just yet, by the way. Where do you suggest I purchase them for the cheapest prices? You've been a huge help and I thank you for bringing me back into the Yu-Gi-Oh community.--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 03:44, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

It's probably alright for that, but you're still likely to see Meta decks at your locals, just depends. As for where you buy them, I've heard Troll and Toad.com is a good place to buy cards. However, I haven't really bought cards online myself. Just shop around I guess. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:42, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
I always use either Reality Games or Troll and Toad, myself. ---Kungfu-mama (Talk) 14:37, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

TCGplayer any good? What are some good sleeves I should buy, and where can I get a decent playmat? Oh. and if I were to make this deck have synchros, what would I need to adjust?--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 23:39, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Here's the final deck!--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 23:54, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

As for Sleeves and Gamemats, your choice really. Just make sure the game mat is durable. As for future Synchro options....we don't have a ton to choose from. If you really need Tuners, go with Rose, Warrior of Revenge she has decent attack, and can be summoned by Summoner Monk. Also, at this point, you should make a decision between either Monk or Sangan, honestly I think Monk gives you more choices, so go with 1-2 of him.

But honestly we need as strong a main deck as possible. So something like this...

You could also replace "That Wacky Alchemy!" with another Bribe, but try to avoid Judgment of Anubis, that cost of discarding a card can be really unpleasant. But if you really want to include it, go ahead. I dropped Tefunit as he's not that incredibly useful, sure he helps in making a Rank 6, but given the right hand, we can already make Sword Breaker with either a few Magician Girl or Skull. Besides, the Colossal Fighter is almost just as useful as Sword Breaker. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:20, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. Sounds good. Do you think this deck is stronger than our previous one? I feel like both would be very fun, but at this point I'm going for the deck that's stronger. --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 01:43, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

I feel like the the edited one is just a little bit more reliable in terms of our draws and gives us a few more options. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:06, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'll purchase the cards right away, now that we're finally finished with this deck! I'll think i'll run two Dark Bribe and ditch That Wacky Alchemy! sound good? Thank you for all your help! I really do appreciate it. --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 02:49, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

That's fine. But I don't think it's smart to run 1 Anubis and 2 Bribe. Just seems redundant. But Bribe has more utility as a card, so Bribe is good. Besides, you have Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole to take care of things. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 03:46, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

I forgot to mention dropping Judgement. Stardust is a little too expensive as of right now though, any other synchros?--Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 00:23, May 3, 2013 (UTC)

How about Crimson Blader or Red Dragon Archfiend. If you can't get either of those, just add in another Colossal Fighter. Don't know if you can get Scrap Dragon or not. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:36, May 3, 2013 (UTC)

I'll look at those, Scrap Dragon was only 2 bucks. Stardust Dragon is about 18 dollars. And what do you guys think about adding Marshmallon?? --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 03:28, May 4, 2013 (UTC)

That's fine. Although, what do Marshmallon and Spirit Reaper add to the deck? A little bit of stalling and that's it. Plus we're pretty tight on space as it is. I don't think you need them. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:58, May 4, 2013 (UTC)

Sounds good! Any last suggestions? --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 14:49, May 4, 2013 (UTC)

No, the deck looks good. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:03, May 4, 2013 (UTC)

Awesome. --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 03:47, May 5, 2013 (UTC)

So here's the final deck, I think it turned out well! Thanks so much! --Johntyl3r (talkcontribs) 00:33, May 7, 2013 (UTC)
