Heartland was initially a peaceful city, where many enjoyed Dueling. [[Yuto]], [[Shay]] and [[Ruri Kurosaki]] grew up here.<ref name="ep33">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V|33|ref}}</ref> 

Heartland City  was invaded by [[Duel Academy (ARC-V)|Duel Academy]], who proceeded to rampage throughout the city and seal its populace into cards.<ref name="ep34">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V|34|ref}}</ref> During his [[Invasion of Xyz Dimension|invasion]], [[Yuri]] carried out a mission to kidnap Ruri.<ref name="ep47">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V|47|ref}}</ref>. He did this just after having kidnapped [[Rin]] in the [[Synchro Dimension]]'s [[City]]. He was pursued by [[Yugo]] of said dimension.<ref name="ep54">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V|54|ref}}</ref> Yugo witnessed part of the invasion and subsequent sealing of the civilians into cards.<ref name"ep48">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V|48|ref}}</ref> Having noticed that Rin's kidnapper had a [[Dimensional counterparts|face similar to his own]], Yugo mistakenly confronted [[Yuto]], who in turn assumed that Yugo was an agent of Duel Academy.<ref name="ep54" /> The Duel ended in no result when Shay and other survivors arrived to the scene.<ref name"ep18">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh!
