Maju, known as Demon Beast (じゅう Majū) in the OCG, is a series of variable ATK Fiend monsters released in Dark Crisis and Invasion of Chaos.

Members of the series take their Japanese names and elements of their designs from the various installments of Mazinger Z, with the Japanese pronunciation of the two names (maju gazetto and majinga zetto) being almost identical.

Members[edit]

Garzett[edit]

All "Maju Garzett" monsters are DARK monsters. Their variable ATK effects are "becomes" effects, meaning that they are set upon being summoned. If they are applied with "ATK becomes" effects or effect negations, their ATK will be reset to 0 after the effects wear off.

Da Eiza[edit]

"Gren Maju Da Eiza" is a FIRE monster. Its variable ATK/DEF effect is a Continuous "equal to" effect, meaning that it varies as conditions changes. If it is applied with "ATK becomes" effects or effect negations, its ATK/DEF changing effect will resume as normal after the effects wear off.

Playing style[edit]

Gren Maju Da Eiza[edit]

"Gren Maju Da Eiza" has a simple effect: its ATK and DEF are both equal to the number of the player's banished cards times 400. Though most decks do not have the banishing capacity to take advantage of "Gren Maju", dedicated deck builds focusing on it can use mass self-banishing cards to rapidly banish 10, 20, or even more cards in a single turn, skyrocketing its ATK into the 4000-8000 range, turning it into a dangerous ultra-high ATK Normal Summonable monster with the capacity to perform OTKs.

A "Gren Maju" deck generally aims to simplify and control the game state through staple blowout cards, floodgates, and supportive engines, in order to draw into the unsearchable "Gren Maju", and then use rapid self-banishing cards to boost "Gren Maju"'s ATK to tremendously high levels and OTK with it. In 2021, the current key cards that facilitate the rapid banishing of cards are "Eater of Millions", "Pot of Desires", and "Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher", all of whom have effects that can rapidly banish cards from the player's Deck or Extra Deck face-down, while giving some additional advantage in the process.

The simplicity of the "Gren Maju" strategy means that the deck has large amounts of free space that can be used for supportive engines and/or staple cards. Some examples of cards that synergize with the "Gren Maju" playstyle include:

  • Mass banishing floodgates such as "Macro Cosmos" and "Dimension Shifter", as the deck has little need for the GY and benefits from additional banished cards.
  • "Inspector Boarder", whose floodgate effect does not affect "Gren Maju" because its effect doesn't activate.
  • Level 8 monsters to take advantage of "Gizmek Orochi"'s status as an easily Special Summoned Level 8 monster for Rank 8 plays; examples include "Golden Castle of Stromberg" to summon "Hexe Trude", "Alpha, the Master of Beasts", the "Danger!" engine, and the "Kaiju" engine. They additionally synergize with "Trade-In", which provides more draw power and makes "Gren Maju" more likely to appear.

Maju Garzett[edit]

The "Maju Garzett" monsters focus on gaining ATK when they are Tribute Summoned or Special Summoned by tributing friendly monsters. They are generally ineffective in the current metagame in 2021, as they don't have effects that provide strong field presence, requires a hefty cost for their own summons, and, aside from "Great Maju Garzett", doesn't actually increase the amount of net ATK the player has on field. Potential synergies include generic DARK and Fiend support and Tribute Summoning support (e.g. "Monarch" support).
