Ishtar, Marik

Marik Ishtar is a Duelist Construct of Marik Ishtar from the Yu-Gi-Oh! series in the Virtual Dueling System. He is also the boss that the player have to faced in a 2 out of 3 Match in the Classic Campaign mode Stage 3-5 in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation. The player has to defeat him in a Duel in order to unlock the next stage and progress Campaign mode.

Appearance[edit]

As a Duelist Construct, his appearance is based on Marik Ishtar, and the outfit is what he wore during the Battle City arc in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series.

Etymology[edit]

His given name "Marik" is derived from the Arabic name Malik (مالك Mālik), meaning "owner" or "holder". It was likely also influenced by the distinct Arabic title "Malik" (ملك Malik), which means "king". His French given name is "Marek" instead of "Marik". His surname "Ishtar" comes from Ishtar, a Mesopotamian goddess of fertility, love, war, and sex.

Rewards[edit]

There are a total of six rewards that the player can earn and received after defeating the Duel Construct in a Duel. The first two rewards are cards that come from the Duel Construct's Deck and the third reward is a recipe for their Deck. Then the fourth, fifth and sixth rewards repeated the same process of the three earlier rewards, but in a harder difficulty with a different Deck. In addition, the sixth reward will allow the player to have the Duel Construct's avatar and the ability to Duel them anytime between the two difficulty.

As Marik is a boss character, the player had to faced him in 2 out of 3 Match which can takes hour to defeat and receive the rewards.

Deck[edit]

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, during the Battle City arc, Marik Ishtar was a Duelist, but the content of his Deck isn't shown. Marik does have a doppelgänger known as Yami Marik and his Deck contains several Fiend monsters and Traps that can weaken the opponent with various effects like burn damage, hand destruction, monster destruction, and lowering the monster's ATK.

In Duel Generation, the Duelist Construct plays a Deck called Legendary Fiend and it uses the idea from Marik doppelgänger's Deck to slowly burn the opponent's LP with inflicting LP card effects. Burn damage can be done with the following "Bowganian", "Coffin Seller" and "Nightmare Wheel". "Bowganian" will inflicts 600 damage and "Nightmare Wheel" will inflicts 500 damage during each of the owner's Standby Phase. "Nightmare Wheel" also have the effect to prevent one of the opponent's monster to not attack and change their battle position. "Coffin Seller" will inflicts 300 damages each time a monster(s) is send to the opponent's Graveyard, and the card "Helpoemer" can help this effect by being in the Graveyard when it is destroyed by battle to discard 1 random card from the opponent's hand at the end of each of their Battle Phase. There are several cards to stall for burn damages, and these cards are "Rafflesia Seduction", "Spirit Reaper", "Messenger of Peace", "Nightmare's Steelcage", "Vengeful Bog Spirit", "Metal Reflect Slime" and the already mentioned "Nightmare Wheel". The monster "Rafflesia Seduction" can take control of the opponent's monster until the end of this turn and "Spirit Reaper" can't be destroyed unless it is targeted by a card effect. The Spell "Messenger of Peace" prevent any monster with 1500 or more from attacking, "Nightmare's Steelcage" prevent the owner from being attacked for two turns, and lastly, "Vengeful Bog Spirit" will prevent any monster that was Summoned this turn to not attacked. The Trap "Metal Reflect Slime" can Summon itself onto to the field with 3000 DEF which is hard to overcome as there aren't many monsters in the game that have a ATK with 3000 or more. In addition, this Deck does have a Egyptian God Cards and there are three of them that could be Summoned in this Duel. Each Egyptian Gods requires three monsters as Tribute in order to be Normal Summoned and their Normal Summoning prevent the activation of cards and effects.

After the player defeat Marik's Legendary Fiend Deck three times, the next difficulty and Deck is unlocked.

The Slime Token Deck focuses on Summoning "Slime Token" by using the signature card "Jam Breeding Machine" to Special Summon them during each of the owner's Standby Phases in Attack Position, but the owner cannot Summon any monsters except for "Slime Tokens" (but the monster can still be Set). The only monster in this Deck is "Morphing Jar" and its effect can be only activated when Set onto the field. The effect of "Morphing Jar" force both Duelist's entire hands to be discarded, and they have to draw 5 cards from the Deck. This Deck relies on several Spells/Traps to stall the Duel until the signature card "Jam Breeding Machine" is drawn and played. Once, "Jam Breeding Machine" is played, the "Slime Token" will be Special Summoned in Attack Position during the owner next Standby Phase and the "Slime Token" is a Level 1 Aqua WATER monster with 500 ATK and DEF. These "Slime Token" can be powered up with cards like "United We Stand", "Wetlands", and "Token Stampede". If there are more copies of "Slime Token" on the field, then "Chthonian Alliance" and "Aqua Chorus" will further increase the ATK of the "Slime Token".
