Possibly unnecessary items

Are any of the following items needed?

• {{}}, {{{}}}, |, [], [[]] - Anyone who knows what these do is much more likely to type them than use the edit tools. They're not difficult to remember or type.
• <span class="plainlinks"></span> - Very rarely needed.
• Circled numbers. These are only used by the Bandai cards. They're added automatically via Template:BandaiRule and Template:Bandai rule (could do with a merge). The user shouldn't need to type them themself. Also, "BandaiRule" uses different characters for 1 to 10 than "Bandai rule" and the edit tools.
• Most Latin diacritics - Other than acute (´), grave (`), circumflex (^), umlaut (¨) and macron (¯) are any of these used? Maybe in the unofficial names, but I'm guessing people who add such names can already easily type the ones they need.
• Greek diacritics - Are these ever used?
• • in the symbols section - Duplicate of the one in the "Insert" section.
• «» in the symbols section - Duplicate of the pair in the "Quotes" section.
• Most currency symbols - Are these used?
• {{subst:Katakana|}}, {{subst:Hiragana|}} - I'm guessing almost everyone who adds katakana or hiagana, either types or copies the characters.
• {{subst:Fullwidth|}} - We have a section for fullwidth characters. Is it not easier to just directly select the character from there?

The brackets & co. may be useful because it's a one-click open-and-close. The pipe seems redundant to me.

Circled numbers may be useful when typing a Japanese lore or when explaining something at the Forum, maybe. Of course, people could copy them from elsewhere, but I'd say they might be useful.

Also, <nowiki></nowiki> tags are available at the bar at the top of the editor, so they might be redundant.

A lot of the stuff you mentioned is present in the default message, so there's at least that for an argument to keep it (though obviously there's no reason we have to stick with what the default message does, either). And I'm probably not the best person to comment on this regardless, since I seldom use anything at all other than the fullwidth characters. That being said, I can at least comment on the circled numbers: they're used in some Japanese card effects, to indicate separate, individual effects (this is a reasonably recent change, though I can't really tell you much more about it; cheese or Ult probably know more than I do). I doubt there's any card with more than 5 or 6 of them, though; I added all 20 mostly just for completion. 「ディノ奴千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 22:11, September 15, 2016 (UTC)
