Card's GAME Lore & ANIME Lore[edit]

(--Mpanty (talk) 07:22, September 3, 2009 (UTC))

As evidenced in the Duel of Yami Bakura vs. Seto Kaiba (Episode 200), Diabound Kernel has many abilities:

Ability to Equip itself to a monster & Timing of activation[edit]

CARD LORE: Once per turn during your Battle Phase, you can equip this card to a face-up monster your opponent controls as an Equip Card (...)'

Evidence from episode 200 suggests that unlike previously believed, the activation occurs during one's own Battle Phase, NOT the Battle Phase of the opponent:

  • Yami Bakura's Turn: Activates his "Doppelganger Token's" special ability, and equips him to Seto's "Vorse Raider". The ATK of Seto's monster is reduced by 1800 ("Vorse Raider": 1900 → 100 ATK / 1200 DEF).
    • The reason why "Doppelganger Token" is able to have such an ability is because it copied the ability from Diabound Kernel.
  • Also, it the anime (both English & Japanese) it is stated Diabound Kernel can attach itself to a monster, suggesting that it is not a conventional attack that grants him his special ability, but rather the act of equipping.

Ability to unequip itself[edit]

CARD LORE: (...) unequip it to Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position.

This particular ability is never demonstrated in the anime, because Diabound Kernel (or rather, the Doppelganger Token) returns to Bakura's side of the field through his other special ability (see below). However it is reasonable to assume the card would have this ability, based on the study of other Union Monsters.

Ability to decrease equipped monster's ATK[edit]

CARD LORE: Decrease the ATK of the equipped monster by the original ATK of this card.

This effect is demonstrated through the use of Bakura's "Doppelganger Token":

Ability to Special Summon itself back if the equipped monster is destroyed[edit]

CARD LORE: If the monster that this card is equipped to is destroyed as a result of battle, Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position.

What happens to Diabound Kernel if the monster he equips is destroyed? In Episode 200, Bakura uses his "Doppelganger Token" a first time to weaken Seto's "Vorse Raider" to 100 ATK. "Vorse Raider" is then destroyed by Bakura's Diabound Kernel through a simple attack. The following turn, Bakura uses his "Doppelganger Token" to weaken another one of Seto's monsters, namely his "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".

  • This proves that if the equipped monster is destroyed, Diabound Kernel is Special Summoned back to the field at some point. Is it immediately? Is it the following turn? It is hard to make that assessment based on the events of Ep.200. A reasonable guess would be to say: "right away".

ANIME LORE: Ability to "absorb" a monster's attacking power[edit]

  • This seems to be strictly an anime-ability which would not be applicable in a real game of Duel Monsters. However it is important regarding Bakura's future plans in the Ultimate Shadow Game:
  • ENGLISH DIALOGUE - Yami Bakura: "Oh if he only knew what my Diabound has just accomplished. By destroying his Blue-Eyes, it was able to absorb & duplicate its attack power. I'd say mission accomplished!"
  • ORIGINAL JAPANESE - Yami Bakura: "That's okay. Diabound's true ability is to absorb the monster it destroyed. For now, my task is complete."

Ka Diabound[edit]

There should be an artical on the Ka Diabound

Other Diabound forms[edit]

Mpanty, are you able to devise the abilities/effects of the other Diabound forms? FANtomCore (talk) 19:08, September 25, 2009

  • FANtomCore, the other forms of "Diabound" never appear during a Duel Monsters card game, but rather during the real-world (or RPG world) of the Shadow RPG game. The monster (or Ka) summoned by Thief King Bakura is "real". So without the context of a card-game Duel, it'd be hard to try and derive Diabound's abilities at each stage of evolution. Also, the "Diabound" CARD doesn't exist. (--Mpanty (talk) 04:41, September 26, 2009 (UTC))
