A question on naming[edit]

I'm just a little confused so I want to ask this question to clear up my knowledge. I called my Bakura article "Ryo Bakura" in order to fit consistency with the "Yugi Mutou" article. The Japanese name has been used here, and "Yugi Muto" redirects to it. Yet the here the article is Joey Wheeler, then english name. I belive that in order for this wiki to be accurate, it needs consistency, so I ask the admin TwoTailedFox, can you please verify which format we are going to use? Also in my Ryo Bakura, I believe it was you who made "Yami Bakura" a link, well my problem with that is one again in the Yugi Mutou article, Yami Yugi redirects to Yugi Mutou, so just clarify the formatting system for that too please. My personal opinion makes me lean towards seperate articles, as technically they are seperate characters. Yami Yugi is a pharaoh as is Yami Bakura a thief. Plus they have lots of history, which substantially gives them enough information to give them seperate articles from their counterparts. If they were both in the same article, you would have to base the article around the Yami versions, as they are the roots of the characters, should it include both spirits, and vessels. Thank you. - Arctic Wolf

I'd be grateful if you could help sort the articles out in the way you described. The primary focus of this Wiki is for the English-speaking crowd, with references and checklists, as well as differences pertaining to, the Japanese version.

Every possible entity, should have it's own article. --TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 22:38, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

WHO delted the naming section what the **** is wrong with that its perfectly perfect.justheretobeknown

birthdate[edit]

i belive it is jan.15 since its labeled on wikipedia and yugiohfans however this may not be true any suggestions? —This unsigned comment was made by Andy wheeler (talkcontribs) 20:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

It used to say January 25th on Wikipedia, but someone changed it without giving any reason. And I'm pretty certain January 25th is the listed as his birthday in Yu-Gi-Oh! Characters Guide: The Gospel of Truth. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:01, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Image changes[edit]

What is with all the image changes? I liked the old one just fine.--Qim1 01:54, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

I'm glad you decided to use the talk page to discuss this. You mean these two images, right:
I also prefer the original. I know "it looks nicer" isn't much of an argument, but there's not much else to say. It's certainly better quality than the first two changes and I find all 4 changes kinda dull.
The user who uploaded the last three usually finds another image and uploads that when the last one he uploads gets rejected. See File:WeevilUnderwood.jpg and File:JadenYuki.jpg for example. So if we do agree to revert it, it probably won't last long. Can I suggest that after this we discuss all infobox image changes on the talk pages before changing them? At least for articles for where there's a history of arguments over what images to use. -- Deltaneos (talk) 12:25, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
I agree, the first image is best. Discussing image changes on the talk pages is a good idea, but I'm unsure how effective it's going to be. Cheesedude 15:27, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
I have nothing against the new one right now, it's a pretty good picture, though it looks too stretched out in the infobox to me.--Qim1 (talkcontribs) 02:43, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
You might be seeing a mixture of two images. Sometimes when an image is uploaded over another one, it will appear as the old image, but stretched to the height and width of the new one for a few days. I really think when we want to change an infobox image to something completely different the new image should be uploaded under a new filename to avoid this problem.
Can we also confirm that the now current image is an official one? -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:19, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
I changed the image to this one because i thought it looked similar to Kaiba's image. It has his signature monster in the background and the image is very clean. If you guys don't like it then it doesn't make much of a difference to me to change it.--Roxas255 (talkcontribs) 06:19, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

Japanese Name[edit]

Are we sure that his Japanese name is Jounouchi? I thought it was Jonouchi. PsychicDuelist101 (talkcontribs) 14:30, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Well in the English manga his name is spelt Jounouchi, so I think it can be presumed that Jounouchi is correct. Tommy2215 (talkcontribs) 14:33, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
It's the same issue that comes up with the names of the protagnists. Both Jounouchi and Jonouchi are correct. Just as Yuugi and Yugi are both not wrong. Same with Judai or Juudai (or hell, even Jyuudai). Some translations omit the extra "u", some don't. If the English manga doesn't omit it, we should use that translation. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 14:35, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
So does that mean the page names that have Jonouchi in their names (ie Jonouchi and the Chopman's deathmatch should be changed so that Jonouchi is spelt Jounouchi? PsychicDuelist101 (talkcontribs) 14:44, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
Are people getting mixed-up?
  • PsychicDuelist101: Looking at this move, didn't you think it was Jounouchi, not Jonouchi?
  • Tommy2215: It's Jonouchi in the English manga, not Jounouchi.
There are loads of ways of romanising his Japanese name in English. Jyonouchi and Jonouchi have been used officially. I've never seen Jounouchi used officially. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:46, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
well I have just looked an english manga page http://www.citymanga.com/yu-gi-oh/chapter-28/08/ to see who is right and it does say Jounouchi there. I also said I thought it was Jonouchi becuase of what you said after. PsychicDuelist101 (talkcontribs) 14:50, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
That's a scanlation. Fans erased the text from the Japanese manga, replaced it with an English translation and uploaded it to the Internet. Viz, who are officially licensed to translate and redistribute the manga, use Jonouchi. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:02, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
Well since his name is spelt Jyonouchi in the anime, shouldn't it be that? Its not like the anime would be wrong. Anyway, Jounouchi is used in the non-fanmade subtitles. (Of course i don't mean megavideo, myspace etc. becuase they are fanmade)88.104.135.64 (talk) 13:48, November 13, 2011 (UTC)

Should Joey's page have a "Relationships" section?[edit]

Joey's relationships with Yugi, Yami Yugi, his sister, and Mai are key motivations for his character and key plot points in DM overall. Thus, wouldn't it make sense to create a Relationships section on his page that addresses his relationships with all of the aforementioned individuals, along with some other important relationships such as his friendship with Tristan?--50.0.66.129 (talk) 22:06, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Agreed - all other characters, included 5D's and ZEXAL, have their own "relationship" - why treated this character with no respect? Is he still bully on Yugi after all those years of good time? --iFredCat 22:08, July 31, 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead and create one if you want. There's not one here quite simply because no one bothered. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:03, August 1, 2012 (UTC)
If your going to do this I suggest adding Kaiba in it. Kaiba is one of Joey's primary rivals since the beginning of the show till the end. Only makes sense.
I agree that putting Kaiba in is necessary, but I'm unconvinced that I'd do a good job explaining their relationship. Also, is it or is it not necessary to include an entry on Tea? While the anime seems to suggest that they're close friends, each is really friends with the other through Yugi and I can't think of many important character moments between the two.--50.0.66.129 (talk) 00:38, August 4, 2012 (UTC)
I have now done my best attempt at a Kaiba entry. Should I include Valon? Even though he appears in only one season, he and Joey go from hating each other for the other's relationship to Mai, to respecting each other as opponents, to ultimately considering each other to be great fighters and great men. Thus, their relationship seems at least somewhat notable.--50.0.66.129 (talk) 04:24, August 4, 2012 (UTC)
Yes Valon would be more a more appropriate choice than Tea because Tea and Joey have a good relationship but it isn't noteworthy when comparing it to other characters (like valon). Also yes the Kaiba entry is alright but I would include something like how Kaiba pushes Joey to be a better duelist because if it weren't for Kaiba, Joey wouldn't have that desire to prove himself to anybody, but because Kaiba's character is the way it is, it motivates Joey to become a better duelist. The Kaiba-Joey rivalry is bigger than it seems but all I would say is that yes a Kaiba entry would definitely be needed.
I will try my best to include details to the Kaiba entry just as I have figured out some other information for this page.

I can add the requested citations for this section, but I don't know how to do citations on this wiki. Would anyone kindly tell me?--50.0.66.234 (talk) 18:13, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

For the first occurrence of a citation, put <ref name="ep#">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh!|#|ref}}</ref> after the statement. Any other time you wish to use the same citation in this article, put <ref name="ep#" /> after the statement. In both cases, replace "#" with the episode number. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 01:52, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

I have added the citations to the best of my ability. I believe these citations to be correct (although many of the events referred to only happen in the Japanese version); the "needs additional citations" tag can probably be removed.--50.0.66.234 (talk) 03:07, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

I've removed the tag. Very nice work. Thank you. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 12:06, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Joey's face in GX...[edit]

Why is his face... different on the flyer?

I'm a keyblade master and rapper all in one!!!! 22:17, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

That's his "creepy chin", according to the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom. It's happened a fair few times in the second series anime as well. Haven't seen the second series in a while, but I'm pretty sure that it's happened during Joey's very determined moments. ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 23:41, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
