I changed some things and added up stuff. It's not normal that the anime version of this page has more content than the manga version since the manga version of the character is the original and most viable depiction of it. Thugcat (talkcontribs) 17:49, February 28, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your contribution. Yeah, it's only relatively recently that we've been working on separate articles for the medium the characters are depicted in, and only a few editors have focused on improving manga content so far. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 18:26, February 28, 2015 (UTC)

Maybe it would be usefull to write differences between the manga and the anime version. I know the manga quite well but I do not know the anime version enough. Maybe someone could give me some opinions to start it off ? Thugcat (talkcontribs) 20:02, March 1, 2015 (UTC)

You shouldn't need to list differences here. That's the purpose of this page: describing the biography of the manga Kaiba. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 17:59, March 2, 2015 (UTC)

Morality[edit]

Saw an interesting point on TvTropes that I'm not sure whether to add because speculation. Kaiba describes Marik's deathmatch as something that he would never have done. Rather than being too sickening for him, the theory goes that he instead found it repulsive because someone had to die, rather than his Death-T games which all had the chance for survival. Thoughts? What's the difference between finding it sickening and finding it repulsive? What reason for disliking it are you saying might be wrong? -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:17, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
Not saying that there's a difference between sickening and repulsive. I'm saying that instead of the simple act of killing people like Marik was planning do, Kaiba more found the fact that someone had to die sickening, in comparison to his own sick games at Death-T which all had a chance to survival.
Am I being confusing? (sincerely asking here) Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 22:23, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
The way I see it, Death T was ultimately just another Game to Kaiba (remembering his speach at duelist kingdom, a Life is just another thing you can lose in a game). Mariks "Game" was a No-Win situation with (seemingly) no option for Yugi's Victory (that being, win and not have someone die)
Dread (talkcontribs) 22:49, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
Nah, not confusing, Sanokal. But someone had to die in the fight with the Chopman. I was thinking something along Dread's logic, but I think he's put it far better than I would have. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:18, December 5, 2015 (UTC)
Been a while since I read the Death T chapters but IIRC I don't think a Death was guarenteed by design (Extremely likely by design of course, but that was the point of Death T). that said I imagine Kaiba cared more for that mini TV Strapped on him the Chopman himself. the Heroes just needed to escape, and they happened to set the room on fire in the process. there was nothing really stopping them from non-fatally incapacitating Chopman either
Ditto with the Electric Chair-ride,
All that said, it was also Pre-Mind Crush Kaiba that did that, it's not a stretch to say his morals changed afterwords
Dread (talkcontribs) 00:37, December 5, 2015 (UTC)
Kaiba said "The rules are simple! After the signal to begin you each pick up a weapon and fight to the death!".
Yeah, he's changed since then, but he was referring to his old self when commenting on the Duel that Marik set up. He said "Even at my worst, I would never have done this...". -- Deltaneos (talk) 01:02, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

Age[edit]

DOES ANY1 KNO THE AGES OF THE KIBA BROTHERS? Jade Merrilees (talkcontribs) 05:46, January 20, 2017 (UTC)

I think it's likely Seto was born October 25, 1980, Mokuba was born July 7, 1985 or 1986 and that the series timeline spans from September 1996 to about March 1999 (from Yugi solving the Millennium Puzzle to the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions).
A decent approximation for their date of births can be made from the following facts:
  • The manga series seems to start in autumn 1996, after September. (The falling leaves in Duel 1 indicate Autumn. The school term has started, so it's at least September. A two-month old newspaper in Duel 13 is dated 1996. The series was first published in September 1996 and seems to have originally been set in real time.)
  • Seto is in Jonouchi's class. (Duel 9)
  • Seto's birthday October 25. (Gospel of Truth)
  • Jonouchi's birthday is in January 25. (Gospel of Truth)
  • Jonouchi is 16 in the first summer after the series begins. (Duel 40)
  • From that it seems likely that Seto was born October 25, 1980.
  • Mokuba's birthday is July 7. (Gospel of Truth)
  • Seto was 10 and Mokuba was 5 when they moved into the orphanage. (Duel 40)
  • Depending on what time of the year they moved to the orphanage, Mokuba could have been born July 7, 1985 or July 7, 1986.
An approximation for the time the series takes place is:
  • It seems to begin in September 1996 (as indicated above).
  • The events between Death-T and Monster World take place during summer, probably 1997. (A number of chapters mention it being summer. 1997 is mentioned on yo-yos in Duel 48.)
  • The Dungeon Dice Monsters arc begins around April, probably 1998. (Anzu mentions them starting a new school year. The Japanese school year begins in April.)
  • The Battle City arc seems to begin before August 23, 1998. (Newspaper in Duel 146 mentions August 23 and 28 for an upcoming event.)
  • The Pharaoh's Memory arc doesn't seem to take place much later than the Battle City arc.
  • The Ceremonial Battle took place 1 month after the memory arc. (Duel 336)
  • So the manga series seems to end around October 1998.
  • The Dark Side of Dimensions seems to take place around March 1999. (The main characters are graduating high school. In Japan, high school is three years and the school year ends in March.)

He is 18 in Dark Side of Dimensions. His age is given next to his Life Points gauge. -- Deltaneos (talk) 12:44, February 5, 2017 (UTC)
