creature swap its efect does target?

No, the monsters are selected when it resolves. Peitenimi 14:14, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

if the targeted monster are removed from play just for a while (using compulsory evacuation device), can we choose another monster or it has been resolved?

Ok suppose you have a justi-break and a gemini elf on your side of the field and your opponent has an ancient gear engineer and grand mole your opulent then attracts with grand mole and you activate justi break. would the ancient gear engineer's effect negate justi-break?

Justi-Break does NOT target.--78.133.76.182 15:23, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Does cards like Lightning Vortex Target? Jupitus 10:40, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

  • No, LoVo doesn't target (LoVo = Lightning Vortex)..... i hate stupid questions that if the person looked at the ruling page of the cards, they would find out if it targets~MEOW~ Might of the BIRD Empire~~ 19:34, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Complicated for No Reason[edit]

personally i think this has become pointlessly complicated,i think that any singular effect card like fissure that effects only one monster should be considered a targeting card

i think that any card effect that has a singular target should be considered a targeting card since choosing one specific creature out of the rest IS by definition being targeted,so a card like fissure or smashing ground should indeed be considered targeting cards despite the fact that you do not get to choose the target the card still specifically only targets one single monster, but no one sees the need to make everything easier.

---

I agree, I just looked at the rulings and saw that Draining Wall (negating a single attack) is supposed to target, but Counter Trap Cards (negating a single Spell/Trap) does not. The more I read into the ruling of this game, the closer I am to that Law degree.

---

To the person who wrote the first entry, it's not that targeting refers to "choosing" only "one" card, since some effects target more than one card and the controller may not get to choose. Rather, it shows clearly what card is being "aimed for" by the effect at activation. If I play Tribute to the Doomed, I declare a target; the monster that I choose is the one that I am aiming for and I don't aim for any other monsters. If I play Fissure, however, it is not clear which monster I am aiming for. It might destroy Labyrinth Wall, but if my opponent chains Rush Recklessly and makes its ATK higher than one of his other monsters, Fissure would destroy something else.

I'll try using an analogy. Let's suppose you're on a soccer team. Your coach orders you to pass the ball to John Robinson, the ace kicker. When you play, you "target" a specific person; your target does not change (unless he is somehow removed from the field, in which case you can't follow the order anymore). Now, let's suppose your coach tells you to pass to the teammate that's closest to you. Now you're no longer targeting; the player to whom you pass the ball can change at any moment, and changing the players does not prevent you from following orders. 206.116.9.132 (talk) 03:59, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

Designate[edit]

-Question, I have recently been arguing with a friend weather the term "designate" means target. I am pretty sure it does. This would mean cards like Blue-Eyes shining dragon can be destroyed by Lightning Vortex. However, friend disagrees, and this page does not specify if the word "designate" also means target. Can this page be edited to be made more clear? Because there is no ruling I can find on what exactly the term "designate" implies.

Designate and Target mean the same thing as far as effects go. --Blue (Talk) 06:34, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

—Yes, designates means targets. And BESD can be destroyed by lightning vortex. Unless BESD effect says it is unaffected by spell or trap or monster effect such as Silent Magician LV 8 and Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 6, then lightning vortex can't destroy it.Omegamon 06:43, December 2, 2009 (UTC)
