Unofficial name template

Noticed you add it at every card which still has the approximate one. That must be really tedious. Need some help with it? --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 23:55, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Nah, I'm just doing that to clear out some of the subcategories of Category:Card pages with an approximate name (changing the template isn't strictly necessary, but I'm editing the pages anyways, so...). Besides, my bot does the change automatically anyways (when I happen to run it ;) ), so they'll all be converted eventually anyways. You should certainly feel free to update the usage yourself when you're editing card pages for other reasons, though. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:10, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Of course. I don't add the template to cards when I don't have anything else to edit as well, but whenever I see it when I translate a card name I correct it. Yeah, I forgot your bot sorry. --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 12:56, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
No problem. The only reason I've not run my bot any recently is that I'm working on something new and I don't have all the kinks worked out yet (that, and I haven't worked all the bugs out of the regexes for it, either =) ). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:24, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Ok. All right, this is kinda irrelevant to our conversation but it is somewhat important so I would ask you some day. But since I hate annoying you all the time, I'm gonna go straight ahead and ask: When I translate Anime-only and Manga-only card names, is it necessary to add the template or not? I'm talking of course about cards mentioned in the anime series which haven't been dubbed yet in my language. --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 21:25, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Please feel free to annoy me all you'd like; one side effect of all my time spent on Wikipedia is that I enjoy answering questions from other users - I like the feeling of helping others out, and I also like the chance to test how much I know and how clearly I can explain it. =) As for tagging unofficial translations of anime- and manga- (and, by extension, video game-, but I have no idea what the state of Greek licensing of YGO video games is) only cards, I would say it's probably not as important, but it also couldn't hurt, if the little bit of extra work doesn't bother you too much. =) Also, in case you haven't noticed it yet, I thought I'd point out that in the InsertChars box below the edit window, I've added a link to automatically add the code "{{Unofficial name|}}" into the edit window, thus saving you some typing. As an added bonus, it automatically positions the cursor between the pipe and closing brackets, so you can immediately insert the language name after clicking it, without having to scroll or click inside the edit box or anything. Cheers! =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 03:53, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Dude thank you so very much! This is sweet. It might sound trivial but this typing was really tiring. You are in my mind Dinoguy1000. About the video games, hmm...I don't really know for sure but I highly doubt that they have been translated in Greek. Ok, I'll add the template. Don't worry, the extra work is really nothing, especially now. Thanks a lot for your response! Oh and in case you live in U.S.A., happy 4th of July! --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 08:03, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Problems with my signature

Hi, can you help me with my signature? Every time I attempt to use the 4 squiggly lines as my sig, I come up with something like this {{SUBST:Template:Signature/UltimateKuriboh}} 21:41, July 3, 2010 (UTC), something which is totally different from the signatures that I see with everyone else. I would very much appreciate it if you could help me; you seem like a pretty tech-savvy person. TY very much for your time in considering this. —This unsigned comment was made by UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) on 21:41, July 3, 2010.

Hello UltimateKuriboh, could you do me a favor and post the exact contents of the signature field from your preferences here, between <nowiki></nowiki> tags for me? (the final text in your edit window should look like <nowiki>signature code here</nowiki> without the italics, of course) Also, make sure you have the "Custom signature" box, immediately below the signature field, checked. Thanks! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 03:58, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
O.K., here it is: {{SUBST:Template:Signature/UltimateKuriboh}}. However, I think I may have solved the problem, IF my signature is normal at the end of this post. If it is, thanks for responding for my post! UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 07:30, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
You unchecked the "Custom signatre" box in your preferences, right? In any case, after some sleep and a couple of days, the problem is pretty obvious to me - the page Template:Signature/UltimateKuriboh doesn't exist. If you're wanting to do something like what I'm doing with my signature, I would recommend that you create a page in your userspace, such as User:UltimateKuriboh/sig, instead of creating a page in the template namespace. You would then put the code {{subst:User:UltimateKuriboh/sig}} (adjusted according to the actual page name) in the signature field of your preferences, and check the "Custom signature" box underneath it. If you would like any more help, feel free to ask! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 22:37, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Splitting Forum:Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki Discussion

Can we please split them as soon as possible? It is really annoying keeping up with the Discussion that really matter. Most people already agree to this idea.-- HHTurtle  (Talk) 10:32, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you in principle, but so far you are the only other person who has commented on my proposal (I think there were a few comments on it in the sidebar update forum topic, but the issue is outside the scope of that particular discussion). I'll probably start a new forum discussion on the matter in the next few days instead, as that should garner a certain amount more interest. In the meantime, you can point out the current discussion to other users if you'd like. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:02, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

On that note, what do we need for the sidebar change to be implemented? Is there somebody who is already creating the new sidebar?-- HHTurtle  (Talk) 12:02, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Really, it just requires Delt or I to make a concrete proposal (i.e. an actual list of items) based on the discussion, and for at least a few other people to okay it (unless Delt decides to skip that stage himself). I've just been dragging my feet about it because I'm like that. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:13, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Template: Card table set

So far I've seen that the template itself if running smoothly and as YamiWheeler said it makes it look better. I look forward to the template itself being at a finished set, but then again it more than likely will always be in a working state such as other Templates on the wiki. I'll continue to deploy the template, and if I see anything broken that you aren't aware of I'll inform you.--Rkdew0 (talkcontribs) 05:25, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

That's good to know. ASL is much different from English directly. As it lacked verb such as is, are, at, to, etc that used for sentence. That's why I am not very good with Grammar sometimes.
Like for explain; English - "Did you hear that my brother is marrying soon?" while in ASL - "My brother marry soon you heard?" You see the difference? --FredCat100 (talkcontribs) 15:46, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Aah, makes sense. I've understood for a while that English and ASL are different, but I've never heard or read anything about how ASL works until now. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:54, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Template:Infobox video game bulleted lists

The infobox used to change bulleted lists to another neat list format. Since the HTML table conversion, the bullet is visible on the first item on the lists as an *. See the release dates section on Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia for example. Are you able to fix this? Also depending on your browser there should be a small space at the start of each item. That's there in case some items go over two lines, so you can see where each one starts. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:44, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

I fixed the bullet issue, but I'm not sure what you're talking about with the space - would it be possible for you to sandbox an example? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:39, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
You can see an example in the "video games" section under "appears in" in Yugi Muto's infobox. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:32, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
Aah, I see - each item begins with a bit of whitespace, and if the item wraps to the next line, there is no preceding whitespace on the wrapped line, making it easy to see the difference between two items on two lines, and one item wrapped over two lines. I think I got it fixed, but if it's still not (quite) working for some reason, I'm probably going to have to revert my HTML conversion. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 23:01, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

As I said in my edit summary, current policy on-wiki is to use an image of the most recently-released English version of the card in question (or, if there has been no English release, the most recent Japanese one). Besides that, the image you uploaded was named incorrectly according to our image policy, and duplicated a correctly-named image which was uploaded almost a year and a half ago. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 01:44, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Dinoguy1000, I was wondering if you could have your bot change any pages that link to Gold Series 2010 (TCG) so that they link to so that they link to Gold Series 3 instead. --Trivi-AM (talk) 13:33, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm just glad this wiki doesn't use a Monaco stylesheet that turns all text white by default; that causes all sorts of problems with templates and boxes and stuff that have to be fixed on a case-by-case basis... ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 22:42, July 13, 2010 (UTC)
Yes about that. I don't know about you but I have changed the background of the wiki by visiting my preferences option. I guess that applies only for my account. Anyway, I'm currently using a skin called "Carbon". It makes the background grey and gives the wiki a more shady look. I just couldn't stand that damn red-white style the admins have chosen for a general style. The annoying thing is that the background i'm using does turn all letters white by default. That's not always a bad thing; but in some cases the letters can't be read. And I was wondering; is there a way so that I could bypass this problem? Some sort of...adjustment? Hope you understand what I'm saying... --Monte (talkcontribs) 23:40, July 13, 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, changing your skin only changes it for you. You're actually not the only one who doesn't like the custom Monaco skin; Deltaneos uses the Monobook skin, and the only reason I use Monaco Custom is because I like to see what custom work wiki admins have put into their skins. As for the color problem, you could try something like * { color: black; } in your monaco.css file, adjusting the color value until you find one with a good readability balance for the main background versus the white/off-white used in many templates. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:16, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Is there a special code for each color that I need to imput or should I just enter the color's name? --Monte (talkcontribs) 00:31, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
It's CSS, so it can be an HTML color name, an X11 color name, a hex triplet, or an RGB triplet. For more information, have a look at Wikipedia's Web colors article. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:12, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Messing with style pages

Actually I was hoping you'd... "play around" with them that time. w:c:anime:MediaWiki:Anime-Box.css is part of the synced CSS. But the amount of style classes (see the bottom of that page) given is quite limited. Do you know how we would go about adding more? -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:07, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

That probably depends on what you're wanting to add exactly. For instance, IMHO we shouldn't use these styles to style CardTable2, but instead develop a "card-table" class here with appropriate subclasses, which is something I've been meaning to do for a while anyways. That is based on my own experience working with CSS, though, and there *could* be very good arguments for using the generalized styles. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 17:14, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
You know more about this than me, so you probably know the better course of action. What I had been trying you can see here. It'd be like the one labelled "Example", which is using one of the styles classes from Animepedia. But would apply colours like in the other tables in the same fashion. But as I said, you know more about this than me, so I'll trust your better judgement. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:09, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't say I have better judgment, necessarily, just maybe more experience (and I don't actually have a great deal of experience working with multiple class names; I may look around and see if I can find anyone who's blogged about it). Offhand, having had a couple of hours to think about why I don't like the idea of a bunch of class names, my biggest objection is in the number of classes itself - every class name you add increases the likelihood that something breaks, or that someone inadvertently breaks the whole thing when they're editing (this can happen to *anyone*, regardless of how experienced they are, even to the creator of the class system). As for the example page, yeah, I'm pretty sure I've had that on my watchlist since within a day of you creating it (I seem to have a creepy penchant for stalking you on here =D ).
One last question, if you don't mind answering (and assuming I haven't answered for you XD ); what country do you live in? Your English is generally too good for it to be likely that you're from anywhere outside Europe, the Americas, or parts of Oceania (nor have I seen any signs that you might be in your mannerisms, etc.), and I know for a fact that you don't speak Arabic or Portuguese (and, going out on a limb, you probably don't speak Spanish either). My best guess, based on the variant of English you use, is that you're from the UK or Australia/New Zealand. (as you might guess, this is something that I've wondered about for a while; at least since Fallensilence wished you a happy Fourth of July and you responded that you didn't live in the USA) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:14, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

For helping with the Spanish Wikia's Card template. Just something, since it looks like you're a good template maker and I'm a freshman. There are some boxes that shouldn't appear if there is no info about it like some language names and Synchro/Fusion Material box. Also the color of Spells/Traps/Virus/Trap-Spells don't appear in the Big Name box. BTW, the names inside the big name box should be of a size of 24, I tried to put it but it didn't work. Also if you could put for the Attributes (Atributo) to appear their symbol file. Thanks. OMG! You did it (talkcontribs) 19:00, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Selective showing/hiding of table rows is trivial; I'll be over in a minute to do it for you (the basic idea is to surround the whole row in {{#if:{{{parameter|}}}|...}}).
The entire color selecting code is just one massive mess (even here) which I plan to simplify exponentially by developing a set of styles for CardTable2 (see the above thread) and forking CardTable2 into per-card-game variants.
If you mean the box that shows the card's English (or, rather, Spanish) and Japanese names, above the whole table, that should be easy enough.
Attributes should also be easy, assuming all the attribute icons are named consistently - can you provide a list of them? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:19, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to the wiki, Dark luster god! Unfortunately, our control over the layout of the interface (such as the positioning of the sidebar) is basically zero, unless we want to get into some really complicated CSS/JS stuff. I'm not sure what you're trying to ask in regards to the images, though. However, I would recommend that you ask any wiki-related questions in Forum:Yu-Gi-Oh!
