Vanity's (虚無ヴァニティー Vanity) is a small series that focus on preventing Special Summoning. The first Vanity's cards were released in Cyberdark Impact in 2006. Then, "Vanity's Emptiness" was released in Starstrike Blast.

Etymology[edit]

In Japanese, the "Vanity" reading is applied to the kanji 「虚無」 (kyomu), meaning "emptiness".

The related "Majesty" reading in "Majesty's Fiend" is applied to the kanji 「威光」 (ikō), meaning "majesty".

Playing style[edit]

Vanity's cards focus on floodgating the opponent by shutting off the opponent's ability to Special Summon or activate Monster effects (for "Majesty's Fiend").

The three main monsters in the series, "Vanity's Fiend", "Vanity's Ruler", and "Majesty's Fiend", are all high-level monsters with the summoning condition that they Cannot be Special Summoned, requiring the player to Tribute Summon them.

As the series has no dedicated support cards, Vanity's monsters are typically played as floodgate supplements in decks that can Special Summon tribute fodder but lack a Normal Summon (such as "Tenyi"), played as a dedicated stun deck that produces tribute fodder, or played alongside Tribute Summoning support, i.e. Monarchs and their Spells and Traps. As a bonus, several Vanity's monsters also have stat lines that are supported by "Monarch" Spell/Traps.
