"The Thing in the Dark", titled "Hidden Person!!" (潜む者!! Hisomu Mono!!) in the Japanese version, is the 204th chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. In its first English printing, it was numbered as the 145th chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. In the 3-in-1 edition, its number was changed to match the original Japanese printing.

The first round of Battle City's quarter-finals start. The first Duel is between Yugi Mutou and Ryo Bakura who is being controlled by the evil spirit of the Millennium Ring, Dark Bakura.

Featured Duel: Dark Yugi vs Dark Bakura[edit]

Turn 1: Dark Bakura
Dark Bakura draws. He Normal Summons " The Portrait's Secret" in Attack Position (1200/1500).

Turn 2: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi draws. He Normal Summons "Berfomet" in Attack Position (1400/1800). "Baphomet" attacks "The Portrait's Secret" and destroys it (Bakura: 3800). Dark Yugi Sets a card.

Turn 3: Dark Bakura
Dark Bakura draws and Normal Summons "The Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams" in Attack Position (1300/1800).

Turn 4: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi draws, then he Normal Summons "Gamma the Magnet Warrior" in Attack Position (1500/1800). "Gamma" attacks "The Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams" and destroys it. "Berfomet" attacks Dark Bakura directly (Bakura: 2200).

Turn 5: Dark Bakura
Dark Bakura draws, and Normal Summons "Headless Knight" in Attack Position (1450/1700).

Turn 6: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi draws, then attacks "Headless Knight" with "Gamma The Magnet Warrior" and then attacks Dark Bakura directly with "Berfomet" (Bakura: 750).

Turn 7: Dark Bakura
Dark Bakura draws. He then removes "The Portrait's Secret," "The Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams" and "Headless Knight" in his Graveyard from play to Special Summon "Dark Necrofear" (2200/2800). (Bakura states that the monsters had to be destroyed within the span of five turns, all in Attack Position.)
