"God's Sword, God's Shield", titled "God's Sword, God's Shield!!" (神の剣、神の盾！！ Kami no Ken, Kami no Tate!!) in the Japanese version, is the 273rd chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. In its first English printing, it was numbered as the 214th chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. In the 3-in-1 edition, its number was changed to match the original Japanese printing.
Dark Marik has retrieved "Monster Reborn" to Summon The Sun Dragon Ra from the Graveyard. Facing "God Phoenix", Dark Yugi responds by resurrecting "Slifer the Sky Dragon" from the Graveyard to defend "The God of the Obelisk".
Featured Duels: Dark Yugi VS Dark Marik[edit]
Turn 13: Dark Marik
Dark Marik has just activated "Mgical Stone Excavation", discarding two cards to add "Monster Reborn" from his Graveyard to his hand. He then Sets a card and Normal Summons "Granadora" (1900 ATK / 700 DEF) in Defense Position. Since it was Summoned, "Granadora's" effect activates, increasing Dark Marik's Life Points by 1000 (Marik 700 → 1700) (NOTE 1: In the manga, there is a limitation on how many cards can be played from hand when it comes to Spells and Traps. A player can only play a single Spell card from the hand per turn, which is why Dark Marik does not activate "Monster Reborn" this turn.)
Turn 14: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi draws. He then Sets a card and Normal Summons "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" (1500/1200) in Defense Position. "Bowganian"'s effect inflicts 300 damage to Dark Yugi (Yugi 1000 → 700).
Turn 15: Dark Marik
Dark Marik draws "Surprise Attack from the Darkness." He then activates his Set "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon "The Sun Dragon Ra" from his Graveyard (???? → 0/???? → 0) in Attack Position. Since Dark Marik Special Summoned "Ra", he chooses to Summon it in "Egyptian God Phoenix" Mode. Dark Marik activates Ra's "God Phoenix" ability, paying 1000 Life Points (Dark Marik 1700 → 700) to allow "Ra" to destroy Yugi's "The God of the Obelisk" without damage calculation. "Ra" attacks "Obelisk", but Dark Yugi activates his Set "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon "Slifer the Sky Dragon" from his Graveyard (X000/X000) in Defense Position. Since it was Special Summoned in Defense Position, the effect of "Slifer" causes it to become the target of "Ra's" attack in place of "Obelisk." "Slifer" is destroyed. During the End Phase, "The Sun Dragon Ra" returns from the field to Dark Marik's Graveyard.
