"Jonouchi's Plan" in the Japanese version, is the fifth chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga. It was first printed in Japan on August 21, 2004 in the V Jump magazine. It was later reprinted in Volume 1 of Yu-Gi-Oh! R.

Jonouchi and Honda fall through a trap door and end up in the basement of KaibaCorp. They are confronted by the third card professor, Klamath Osler.

Summary[edit]

Dark Yugi obtains the key card for the next section from Tilla Mook, while Jonouchi asks the reluctant Tilla if she could lend him her Duel Disk. Yugi, Jonouchi, and Honda proceed down a hall, with Jonouchi asking who's next. Honda reminds him again that they're not just here to win duels; Jonouchi protests that reaching Yako and saving Anzu is the reason he's so eager to win in the first place, and angrily accuses Honda of thinking that he'll lose. Dark Yugi reassures Honda that Jonouchi is a capable Duelist - they'll win no matter what they're up against and retrieve the "missing piece" of their friendship.

Upon the group entering another room, Jonouchi spots a card on the ground, running over to pick it up. He discovers that the card is "Booby Trap", and seconds later is caught in one when the floor opens up into a slide underneath him. Honda and Yugi both dive after him, but Honda shoves Yugi aside - he tells Yugi to go on ahead and not lose in the meantime, assuring him that they'll catch up. Yugi yells after Honda as he vanishes through the gap in the floor, which closes behind him and Jonouchi; Yugi then notices a man in military fatigues approaching him.

Below the ground, Honda gets up, rubbing his back and asking Jonouchi if he's all right. Honda finally finds Jonouchi, who has his Deck and borrowed Duel Disk out - opposite of him is a short and stocky man with his own Duel Disk. The man introduces himself as Klamath, the card professor of the block, and admits that he didn't expect anyone to come tumbling down there, snarking that that a "coupla losers" walked right into the trap. Klamath mumbles to himself that he was still lucky despite 'drawing the bottom' during the initial assignment of KaibaCorp blocks. Jonouchi tells him to get on with the Duel, and Honda cheers him on as the match starts.

Klamath goes first and draws, exclaiming that he's drawn a good one and celebrating his luck; he Summons "Antlion" in Attack Mode, but the monster doesn't seem to appear. Despite Jonouchi's confusion, Klamath laughs and assures him that nothing's wrong with his Duel Disk and demands Jonouchi continue; Jonouchi draws, then Sets a card and Summons "Gearfried the Iron Knight" in Attack Mode. He uses it to attack, with "Gearfried" charing forwards and then disappearing into a pit of sand that "Antlion" emerges from - its effect reduces the ATK of "Gearfried" by 500, and "Anliton" snaps the monster in two, reducing Jonouchi to 3800 Life Points. Klamath draws and equips "Antlion" with "Laser Cannon", boosting it to 2200 ATK, then Summons "Worm Drake" and attacks directly with both monsters, leaving Jonouchi at 200 Life Points.

Klamath laughs at Jonouchi, asking Jonouchi what he's doing with a useless face-down card; Jonouchi had played it as a bluff. Klamoth begins to think he could beat Yugi Mutou with his Luck as Jonouchi draws; he looks at his drawn card for a while before he Sets another card and Summons "Rocket Warrior" in Defense Position, ending his turn. Klamath draws, saying that Jonouchi put up a good struggle, but his defense is nothing before "Antlion"; he plays "Double Evolution" to double the ATK increase granted by "Laser Cannon", increasing the ATK of "Antlion" to 2900 ATK. Klamath attacks with "Antlion", but Jonouchi activates his Set Trap card, "Magical Arm Shield", which changes the attack target to "Worm Drake"; this reduces Klamath to 2500 Life Points. When Klamath, Jonouchi points out that he claimed luck was on his side, then says he's feeling lucky as well. Klamath scoffs in response, pointing out Jonouchi's 200 Life Points.

Jonouchi decides to test both players' luck for real and activates the Spell Card "Roulette Spider" from his hand, which blinds "Antlion and spins it around. Klamath is confused and worried at first, but figures he has nothing to worry about - the probability of the arrow stopping at him is only 33%, which is nothing to worry about if he's lucky. Sure enough, the arrow stops on a horrified Jonouchi, and Klamath cheers that today is his lucky day, only for Jonouchi to grin and reveal his Set Trap Card "Probability Change". This negates and eliminates the previous result of "Roulette Spider", respinning it and leaving Klamath with a 50% chance of being hit. Klamath yells for it to stop, and his luck runs out as the arrow points at him: "Antlion" blasts him and reduces his Life Points to 0. Jonouchi cheers that today's his lucky day after all, while Honda remarks that he's more of a gambler than a Duelist.

Featured Duel: Katsuya Jonouchi vs. Klamath Osler[edit]

Turn 1: Klamath
Klamath draws "Antlion" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1500/1000) in Attack Position.

Turn 2: Jonouchi
Jonouchi draws. He then Sets a card. He then Normal Summons "Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) in Attack Position. It attacks "Antlion", but the effect of "Antlion" activates, decreasing the ATK of "Gearfried" by 500 ("Gearfried": 1800 → 1300/1600). "Gearfried" is destroyed (Jonouchi 4000 → 3800).

Turn 3: Klamath
Klamath draws "Insect Gun Armor" and equips it to "Antlion", increasing its ATK by 700 ("Antlion": 1500 → 2200/1000). He then Normal Summons "Worm Drake" (1400/1000) in Attack Position. Both monsters attack directly (Jonouchi 3800 → 200).

Turn 4: Jonouchi
Jonouchi draws. He then Sets a card and Normal Summons "Rocket Warrior" (1500/1300) in Defense Position.

Turn 5: Klamath
Klamath draws. He then activates "Double Evolution", doubling the ATK bonus that "Antlion" receives from "Laser Cannon" ("Antlion": 2200 → 2900/1000). "Antlion" attacks "Rocket Warrior", but Jonouchi activates his face-down "Magical Arm Shield", redirecting the attack to "Worm Drake". "Antlion" destroys "Worm Drake" (Klamath 4000 → 2500).

Turn 6: Jonouchi
Jonouchi draws. He then activates "Roulette Spider" from his hand: "Antlion" will attack what the spinner points at (there are three targets: "Rocket Warrior", Klamath, and Jonouchi). It points to Jonouchi, but he activates his face-down "Probability Change", letting him re-spin and eliminatiing the previous outcome. It points at Klamath, so "Antlion" attacks him directly (Klamath 2500 → 0).
