Gameplay Mechanics
The large majority of the story arc revolves around a new gameplay element, which is created specifically for this story arc, known as the Deckmaster"Deck Master". In these duelsDuels, each player would select a DeckmasterDeck Master, which begins the game outside of the playing field. Each Deckmaster, Deck Master has a unique special ability, which can be used at any point in the duel Duel as many times as desired. It is to be noted that even Deckmasters Deck Masters which otherwise have no special abilities (such as normal monstersNormal Monsters) have a special Deckmaster Deck Master ability. As well, it appears that some Deckmasters Deck Masters retain their normal special abilties in addition abilities to be used as their Deckmaster Deck Master abilities, such as "Jinzo's" ability to negate all Trap cards and Nightmare Penguin's ATK increase of all WATER-Attribute monsters. The Deck Master can also be specially Summoned to the field, without any prerequisite such as Tributes, Fusions (for Fusion Monsters) or rituals (for Ritual Monsters). However if the Deck Master is destroyed, its controller automatically loses the Duel. If the Deck Master is itself Tributed or otherwise replaced, the new monster would become the new Deck Master, and the old Deck Master's abilities were lost (in theory, the old Deck Master could be returned by normal means - but without the Deck Master abilities, although this point is not elaborated upon in the story arc). It is not explained how a monster that cannot be specially Summoned, or a monster that can only be Summoned in a special manner (such as "Fusion only") can be designated as a Deck Master, as no such monster was used as a Deck Master in the story arc.
The Deckmaster can It is also be specially summoned to the field, without any prerequisite such not known whether a Deck Master card counts as tributes, fusions against a Duelist's main (for or Fusion Monsters), or rituals (for Ritual Monsters). However, if the Deckmaster Deck Master is lost, so is the duel. If the Deckmaster is itself tributed or otherwise replaced, the new a Fusion monster would become the new Deckmaster) Decks, and the old Deckmaster's abilities were lost (in theory, the old Deckmaster could be returned by normal means - but without the Deckmaster abilities, although as this point concept is not elaborated upon in the story arc). It is not explained how a monster that cannot be specially summoned or a monster that can only be summoned in a special manner (such as "Fusion only") can be designated as a Deckmaster, as no such monster was used as a Deckmaster in the story arcanime.
It is not known whether a Deckmaster card counts as against When a duelistmember of Yugi's main (or Fusiongroup Duels in this Virtual World, if the Deckmaster he/she is given a Fusion monster) decksDuel Disk by their opponent, as this concept is not elaborated upon in the animeand they must build a new Deck.

The Big 5 Name (Original anime), Name (English anime), Deckmaster * Konosuke Oshita, Virtual World arc can be seen as a sequel to the Gansley, Deck Master: Deepsea Warrior* Shuzo Otaki, Crump, Deck Master: Nightmare Penguin* Chikuzen Oka, Johnson, Deck Master: Judge Man* Soichiro Ota, Nesbitt, Deck Master: Robotic Knight* Kogoro Daimon, Lecter, Deck Master: Legendary Heroesarc (episodes 43-45) as it features The Big Five looking for revenge within a virtual reality system similar to the one they were defeated in.
===Entering the virtual realm===Aboard Seto Kaiba's airship, the eight Battle City finals Duelists prepare to head for Alcatraz (NoteKaibaCorp Island: The in the English dub), the site of the semifinal and final rounds of the Battle City tournament. However, the trip takes a mysterious wrong turn, and finds itself landing in an undersea fortress - apparently, a mysterious force is set on revenge against Kaiba. Forcing many of its passengers off the ship, the mysterious force leads them into another room, where they reveal themselves to be the Big 5 , who are the five former board members do not have names in of KaibaCorp, who were fired by Kaiba before the original manga Battle City tournament for attempting to take over his company from underneath him.
Aboard Seto The Big 5 seek revenge against Kaiba's airship, as well as Yugi Muto for foiling their plans to take over the eight Battle City Finals duelists prepare to head for Alcatraz company on two different occasions (KaibaCorp Island in the English version), the site of the semifinal by defeating Maximillion Pegasus and final rounds of the Battle City (Yu-Gi-Oh!Big 5's Mythic Dragon in Legendary Heroes) tournament. HoweverTo do so, the trip takes a mysterious wrong turnthey force their participation in their own virtual Duel Monsters tournament, and finds itself landing in an undersea fortress - apparently, a mysterious force is set on revenge against similar vein to Kaiba's Legendary Heroes games. Forcing many There was also an added stipulation: if one of its passengers off the shipprotagonists were to lose, the mysterious force leads them into another room, where they reveal themselves to be the Big 5, five former board members of KaibaCorp, who were assumed also threatened to be fired by Kaiba sometime before Battle City tournament take their bodies for attempting to take his company from underneath himthemselves and escape into the real world.
The It is also noted by the Big 5 seek revenge against Kaiba for firing themthat the virtual tournament would require virtual cards, as well as Yugi Muto and thus neither "Slifer the Sky Dragon"Yugi Mutounor " in Obelisk the company on two different occasions (Tormentor" could be used by defeating Maximillion Pegasus (Pegasus J. To do soYugi or Seto Kaiba, they force their participation in although players could freely choose their own virtual Decks before every Duel Monsters tournament, in a similar vein to Kaiba's Legendary Heroes games. There was also an added stipulation: if one of our protagonists were to lose, the Big 5 also threatened to take their bodies for themselves and escape into the real world.
It is also noted by As the Big 5 that group enter the virtual tournament would require virtual cardsworld, however, they find themselves separated: Yugi in a forest near a lake, Téa Gardner in a canyon, Tristan Taylor, Serenity Wheeler, and Duke Devlin in and around a castle, Joey Wheeler in a mansion, and thus neither Slifer Seto and Mokuba Kaiba in another forest. Each of the Sky Dragon nor Obelisk separated groups, as it turns out, faced a different member of the Tormentor could be used by Yugi or Kaiba, although players could freely choose their decks before every duelBig 5.
As it turns out, the group enter Big 5 are controlled by Noah Kaiba, the virtual worldbiological son of Gozaburo Kaiba, and stepbrother to Seto and Mokuba. Noah had died (or, howeverin the English dub, they find themselves separated: Yugi had his body "rendered useless") in a foresttraffic accident when he was young, Téa Gardner (Anzu Mazaki but his mind was preserved in the manga and the Japanese versions) in a canyonvirtual world. He believes that, Tristan Taylor (Hiroto Honda)as Gozaburo's biological son, Serenity Wheeler (Shizuka Kawai)he is the true legitimate heir to KaibaCorp, and Duke Devlin (Ryuji Otogi) in and around a castlethat he, Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi) in a mansionnot Seto, and Seto and younger brother Mokuba elsewhere. Each of should be the separated groups, as it would turn out, will face a different member of one running the Big 5family business.
==Fall How Noah enlists the help of the Big 5 is unclear, but it was implied that, as a result of the earlier encounter between them and the main characters, the minds of the Big 5 were similarly preserved in the virtual world (in the English dub, the Big 5==Name: Opponent reveal that when Mythic Dragon — the monster at the end of the Legendary Heroes arc — was destroyed, Opposing Deckmasterso were their bodies, (sbut not their minds) Defeated By . Being a competent amateur player in her own right, she chooses a Deck of all-female monsters, including "Dark Magician Girl" as her Deck Master, to which Crump scoffs at, citing it turns outas an unwise decision, thinking that "Dark Magician Girl" would not be effective without her male counterpart (in the Big 5 are controlled English dub, this is replaced by remarks suggesting a perversion towards young girls). Johnson manages he managed to get the upper hand in the duel through a combination Big 5 into transferring their shares of his Deckmaster ability (which couldKaibaCorp to Seto, at so that both Seto and Gozaburo had 49% of the cost of life pointscompany each. However, clear Seto had blamed Mokuba for leaking the field of all cardsinformation out to Gozaburo (when in fact it was Seto himself) and the ability of controlling the outcome of Joey, making Seto's luck-based movesattempt fruitless. Yet, just as When it seems seemed that JoeyGozaburo had won, Mokuba then threw a bombshell of his own: he'd never turn his back on his brother, and combined with Seto's luck 49%, his 2% would be enough to oust Gozaburo from power. It is about not completely clear what happened to run out, Noah appears and insists that Johnson forfeit for cheating. Convinced means - by her older brother (who had managed to find her) that she, too, must fight in the spirit making a false promise of a True Duelistbodies, Serenity vows to continue playing. Eager to put Leichter asideHowever, it is destroyed by "Mirage Knight", Kaiba tries a monster that was Summoned after Yugi and Joey were able to use his fuse "Dark Magician " and "Flame Swordsman" together (which were, respectively, only to fail as he realizes that LeichterYugi and Joey's Deck Master was Jinzo Masters) to create "Dark Flare Knight", who destroyed itself by attacking "Five God Dragon" and taking no battle damage due to its effect, which destroys allowing "Mirage Knight" to be Summoned. The Duel, however, did not end, thanks to the Trap Cards. Combined with "A Deal with Dark Ruler", allowing the Big 5 to Summon a card that rendered magic cards uselessnew Deck Master, this left Kaiba with only "Berserk Dragon" - a monster cardsthat gradually weakened the longer it stayed on the field. FurthermoreAfter surviving a round of attacks, Leichter would use Satellite CannonJoey, a monster that could only be destroyed by eight-star monsters or abovewho the Big 5 thought was the weaker link of the two, and whose power increased was allowed to survive on 300 Life Points, would set up "Dark Magician" by transforming him into "Dark Magician Knight" by using the longer it is in play (but only while attacking)Magic Card, "Knight's Title", in an attempt allowing him to ensure use his victory. HoweverDeck Master's special ability (which, Kaiba manages to summon Blue Eyes White Dragonhe explains, an eightwould only work on Warrior-star monster, in time, Type monsters) and uses it was able to destroy transfer most of the ATK of "Satellite CannonFlame Swordsman " directly to "Dark Magician Knight", which was enough to destroy "Berserk Dragon" and win the duelDuel.
Through the duel, the viewers learn ===Seven Turns of how Seto took over KaibaCorp: In the Japanese version, on SetoHeaven's birthdayCreation===With the Big 5 defeated, he Noah banishes the five and Mokuba were given 2% shares in KaibaCorptakes matters into his own hands. In the English anime, He challenges Seto was given ten million dollarsdirectly, while how Mokuba acquired 2% of KaibaCorp is unclear. In the Japanese version, Seto had fully intending to take his body in order to return one hundred times escape the investment within one yearvirtual world, while in and claim the English anime, position that he believes he merely had to return ten times the investmentdeserves. Noah tells Seto had shown his cruel business tactics when that he accomplished his feat would win in just one dayseven turns, and with that task completedeach turn representing each of the seven days of creation (this detail, like all other religious references, was removed from the English dub). Despite Noah's choice of "Shinato's Ark" as his Deck Master, he managed Seto manages to get the Big 5 into transferring their shares a position in which one of his monsters could attack either of KaibaCorp to Seto, so that both Seto Noah's two monsters and Gozaburo had 49% of win the companyDuel. However, Seto had blamed Mokuba for leaking the information out suddenly appears to Gozaburo (when in fact it was Seto himself)support Noah, making effectively stopping Setofrom attacking Noah's attempt fruitless. When it seemd monsters for fear that Gozaburo had won, Mokuba then threw a bombshell of his own: he'd never turn his back on his brother, and combined with Seto's 49%, his 2% would be enough to oust Gozaburo from power. It is not completely clear what happened to Gozaburo after this; in both the Japanese and English versions he 'disappears,' while in the manga he commits suicidehurt.
Because of this, Seto had effectively played into Noah's hands: Noah was never in any danger of losing the Duel, thanks to capitalize another of his Deck Master's abilities that gave him Life Points based on the number of discarded monsters. Now with the upper hand, Noah begins to take control of the Duel. Meanwhile, Seto blaming Mokuba, and convinces Mokuba attempts to get through brainwashing that Noah is to his true big brainwashed brother, and that to no avail. With one last hope, Seto was a nobodySummons his "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", which manages to break Mokuba free of Noah's control. This is part of Yet, thanks to his plan Deck Master, Noah's Life Points continue to slowly rise. Desperate, Seto uses "Last Turn" to force the Duel into one final winner-take everything -all Battle Phase. Seto has chooses "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" to attack while Noah chooses his Deck Master to defend. Although "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" wins the battle, the destruction of "Shinato's Ark" allowed Noah to summon "Shinato, King of value from hima Higher Plane", a more powerful monster that destroys "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", and allowing Noah to win the Big 5 was simply Duel. As a tool for token of his victory and his means - by making a false promise apparent worthiness of the title of head of bodiesKaibaCorp, he could manipulate the Big 5 as he wishedNoah turns Seto and Mokuba to stone.
Unaware of thisYugi, however, is enraged over Noah's actions: had Seto not Tributed "Different Dimension Dragon", the Big 5 continue to try and take more bodies so that they Duel would not have to share Tristan'sbeen a DRAW, and manage to convince Yugi and Joey into a duel since this dragon cannot be destroyed in battle (this was an error; "Different Dimension Dragon" can only be destroyed by monsters with everyone's bodies on the line'less than 1900 ATK). Instead, winner"Blue-take-all. In Eyes White Dragon" was Summoned so that Seto would save Mokuba (in the duelEnglish dub, the Big 5 (which started with a 4000this detail was omitted -point advantage) manage to summon their signature Five God Dragon by tributing their five Deckmasters, yet it Yugi is destroyed enraged over how Seto had effectively been blackmailed by Mirage Knight, Noah earlier when he had used Mokuba as a fusion combination of Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman (whichhuman shield). He challenges Noah to continue the Duel, in turn, were with Yugitaking Seto's place. With Life Points being 7400-400 in favour of Noah, and Joeyno monsters on Seto Kaiba's Deckmastersside of the field (and no cards in his hand). The duel, howeverNoah gladly accepts, did not end, thanks intending to a trapquickly win, allowing the Big 5 and turn both Yugi and his friends to summon a new Deckmaster, Berserk Dragon - a monster that gradually weakened the longer it stays on the fieldstone. After surviving a round of attacksShould Yugi win, Joey, who the Big 5 thought was the weaker link and was allowed to survive on 300 life pointshowever, would setup Dark Magician by transforming him to Dark Magician Knight, allowing him to use his Deckmaster special ability (which he explains as only working on Warrior-type monsters) and transfer Flame Swordsman's attack strength, which was enough to destroy Berserk Dragon and win demands that everyone be set free from the duelvirtual world.
==Seven Turns of HeavenWith the Big 5 defeatedHaving to Duel against a different kind of Duelist in Yugi, Noah banishes the five and takes matters into his own hands. Noah tells Seto that he would win in seven turns, with each turn representing each end of the seven days of creation (this detailturn, like all other religious references, was removed from and the English version). Despite Noah's choice "Spring of Rebirth" Magic Card to attack Yugi and increase his Deckmaster own Life Points in the process. Although Yugi manages to use "Cyber Jar"to destroy all of Noah's arcmonsters, including "Shinato, King of a Higher Plane" (which Seto forced Noah to Summon to the affectionate nickname field as a result of Noah needing a target to declare as a defender for this story arc, is derivedthe effect of "Last Turn"), Seto manages Noah uses another Deck Master ability to get into pull "Shinato, King of a position in which one Higher Plane" back to the sidelines, but with the caveat that Noah now cannot Summon "Shinato, King of his monsters could attack either a Higher Plane" back to the field for the remainder of Noah's two monsters and win the duelDuel. HoweverBecause of his Spirit Monsters, Mokuba suddenly appears to support Noah"Spring of Rebirth", and another Deck Master ability, effectively stopping Seto from attacking Noah's monsters for fear Life Points continue to accumulate to the point that Noah simply allows Yugi to directly attack him every turn - an effort that Mokuba turned largely fruitless as Noah would be hurtmanage to gain even more Life Points.
Because Being confident of thishimself, Seto had effectively played Noah offers Yugi a chance to forfeit the Duel, but for every turn that Yugi continues to play in which Noah is not defeated, one of Yugi's friends would be turned into stone. With time running out, Yugi ends up in a situation where he has 100 Life Points to Noah's hands: 10,000, facing off against Noah was never in any danger of losing the duel, thanks to another of his Deckmaster's abilities that gave him life points based most powerful Spirit Monster (which stayed on the number of discarded monsters. MeanwhileIt seemed all but lost for Yugi, when he is reminded that even though all of his friends (Seto attempts and Mokuba included) are turned to get through stone, they are still there in spirit to his brainwashed brother cheer him on. With a new-found confidence, Yugi draws "Card of Sanctity", allowing Yugi to no availdraw six cards. With one last hopethese six cards, he revives Seto summons his Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and fuses it with the two "Blue -Eyes White Dragon, which manages " he has drawn to break Mokuba free of Noah's control. Desperate, Seto He then uses the Last Turn trap in order to force the duel into one his final battle phasecard, winner"[[De-take-all. Although split "Blue -Eyes wins, the destruction of the Miracle Ark allowed Noah to summon Shinato, a more powerful monster that destroys Ultimate Dragon" back into three "Blue -EyesWhite Dragons", thus giving Noah the victory. As a token of his victory and his apparent worthiness of attacks directly with all three, winning the title of head of KaibaCorp, Noah turns Seto and Mokuba to stoneDuel.
