Yu-Gi-Oh![edit]

  • As the name "Exodia the Forbidden One" is frequently used to refer to the completed Exodia, Seeker used the name "Head of Exodia" to refer to this card specifically, separate from the four limbs.
  • The original manga and first series anime has this card as a Level 7 while the second series anime has it as a Level 3.
  • In the anime, this monster appeared when someone gathered his five pieces in their hand. In that instant, it appeared and attacked, destroying all the opponent's monsters with one blow and wiping out the opponent's Life Points with his attack.
  • The attack of this monster is called Raging Hellfire - Exxod Flame 「怒りの業火 エクゾード・フレイム」 in the manga, and the Japanese anime. In the English uncut versions, it is called Hellfire's Rage - Exodo Flame. The broadcast anime doesn't have a consistent attack name, although Obliterate is the name given to Exodia's Automatic Win effect in the first dubbed episode.
  • When this card is summoned in the anime, a pentagram would appear before this monster appears. In the international anime, the pentagram is replaced with a ten-pointed star.

Anime[edit]

Pre-Duelist Kingdom[edit]

  • In episode 1, Yami Yugi uses this card during his duel against Seto Kaiba. He draws this card on the final turn of the Duel. Since Yugi now had all five pieces in his hand, he summons Exodia (a feat that no duelist has ever accomplished prior to this Duel). Yugi then uses Exodia to attack and destroy all three of Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes White Dragons", winning him the duel.

Duelist Kingdom[edit]

  • In episode 3, Weevil Underwood asked Yugi if he could look at his Exodia pieces. Yugi does so, but right after seeing the Exodia cards, Weevil throws Yugi's Exodia cards overboard to insure that Yugi can't use them to help him win his Duels in Duelist Kingdom. Despite Joey Wheeler jumping in to try and save the cards, he only recovers two pieces.
  • In episode 8, this card is shown in a flashback Kaiba has when he remembers losing to Yugi and Yugi claiming that he needs to put his heart into his cards and the game to win against him.
  • In episode 9, this card is shown in a flashback Kaiba has when he tells his computer that Yugi has Exodia which should be more than enough to beat Pegasus. After remembering Yugi using Exodia against him, Kaiba becomes angered at his loss. However the computer states to Kaiba that Yugi lost his Exodia cards at some point before he got to Duelist Kingdom which shocks Kaiba.
  • In episode 16, this card is shown in a flashback Kaiba has when he remembers Yugi using Exodia to wipe out his three "Blue-Eyes White Dragons" and win the Duel. Yugi claimed in said flashback that Kaiba lost due to playing only for power. Kaiba thinks he should fight Yugi again, but he first must use his new Duel Disk system to defeat Maximillion Pegasus.
  • In episode 35, this card can be seen in a flashback Yugi has when he remembers his grandfather telling him that he should never lose faith in himself and that he will win if he faces himself in times of pain. This card can be seen at the bottom of the Deck Solomon Muto was holding while he was explaining this to Yugi.

Battle City[edit]

  • In episode 55, Seeker uses this card during his Duel against Joey Wheeler. The Rare Hunter uses "Graceful Charity" twice in order to get the five pieces into his hand. He eventually succeeds in getting a complete set into his hand, allowing him to summon "Exodia". "Exodia" then attacks and destroys Joey's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", defeating Joey. After the duel, the Rare Hunter reveals to Joey that he has three complete sets of "Exodia the Forbidden One" in order to insure he can win Duels.
  • In episode 56, Seeker uses this card during his Duel against Yami Yugi. By the end of the fourth turn, the Rare Hunter had this card, "Right Arm of the Forbidden One", "Right Leg of the Forbidden One", and "Left Leg of the Forbidden One" in his hand and he knew that that "Left Arm of the Forbidden One" was the top card of his Deck. Yugi then quickly figured out the Rare Hunter's strategy before the Rare Hunter revealed it. In the next episode, the Rare Hunter becomes prepared in drawing the "Left Arm", but Yugi activates "Time Seal" to skip the Rare Hunter's Draw Phase. Yugi then activates "Lightforce Sword" to banish the Rare Hunter's "Right Arm of the Forbidden One" for three turns. On the Rare Hunter's turn, he activates "Swords of Revealing Light" to stall for time. After two turns, the Rare Hunter summons one of the two copies that he had in his hand in Defense Position as he ran out of defensive monsters and became worried that Yugi might destroy his "Swords of Revealing Light" before the effect expires, but Yugi then activates "Chain Destruction" to destroy the two remaining copies of this card in the Rare Hunter's hand and Deck. Yugi then activates "Dust Tornado" to destroy "Swords of Revealing Light". He then revives "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast" with "Monster Reborn". "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast" then attacks and destroys this card. After Yugi won the duel, he takes back Joey's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon". He then discovers that the Rare Hunter's cards were fake (in the dub, they were real cards marked with an invisible ink) and that was enough for Yugi to rip the "Forbidden One" cards up.
    • In the second above-mentioned episode, this card can be seen in Seeker's Deck when Yami Yugi searches it and finds out the cards are fake (in the dub, they were real, but were marked).
  • In episode 74, three copies of this card appear within a series of flashbacks that show Yugi's first two Battle City Duels.

Virtual World[edit]

  • In episode 99, this card appears when Yami Yugi was building his Virtual World Deck for his Duel against Gansley.
  • In episode 108, this card appears in a flashback explained by Leichter when he reminds Seto that his birthday gift from Gozaburo Kaiba was where all the mistakes made by Seto himself began.
  • In episode 109, this card appears in a flashback Leichter has when he explains to Seto that his treachery began when Gozaburo gave him a large amount of dollars to test Seto's business skills.

Waking the Dragons[edit]

Dawn of the Duel[edit]

  • During Aknamkanon's reign, Shimon (the past life of Solomon Muto) has this monster as his Ka and he swore to seal it and never use it again after he destroyed the force that was attacking the Egyptian capital.
  • When Zorc Necrophades attacks Egypt, Shimon summons Exodia from its five pieces after he took up the Millennium Key (either after Isis brought it back in the anime or when Shimon took it off Shada's corpse in the manga). Although Exodia experienced some success (like after Shimon demonstrates its ability to regenerate after its arm was torn off by Zorc in the anime), Zorc overpowers Exodia since its power is based on Shimon's while Zorc can draw power from the darkness. Therefore, Exodia is destroyed and Shimon is killed.
    • In the international anime, the summoning of Exodia used ten circles instead of five and the shape the circles form is changed from a pentagram to a ten-pointed star. Also, the scenes showing Exodia and Zorc tearing each other's arms off and subsequently regenerating the lost arms are removed.

Manga[edit]

In the Death-T final match, Yugi managed to assemble all five pieces of the Forbidden One (a feat that no duelist has ever accomplished prior to that duel). Exodia appears and Yugi uses it to attack and destroy all of Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes White Dragons", winning him the duel.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX[edit]

  • In episode 127, Marcel Bonaparte (who was possessed by Yubel at the time) was going to add this card from his Deck to his hand via the effect of "Break the Seal" during his Duel against Adrian Gecko, however the Duel gets canceled due to the "Sacred Beasts" awakening. After seeing Marcel's hand, Adrian realized that if the effect of "Break the Seal" had resolved, Marcel would have won the Duel.
  • In episode 144, Adrian uses this card during his Duel against Aster Phoenix. He places this card on top of his Deck via the effect of "Deep Diver". Upon figuring out Adrian's strategy, Aster activates "Force of Four" to prevent Adrian from getting all five pieces of Exodia into his hand as well as make Adrian send "Ritual of the Ultimate Forbidden Lord". After Adrian draws this card, he is forced to send this card to the Graveyard. Adrian then prepares to activate the effect of "Ritual of the Ultimate Forbidden Lord". In the next episode, Adrian activates the effect of "Ritual of the Ultimate Forbidden Lord" to return this card from his Graveyard to his Deck and discard "Right Arm of the Forbidden One" and "Left Arm of the Forbidden One" in order to Special Summon "Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord". On the last turn of the Duel, "Exodius" (whose ATK was 4000 due to its own effect) attacks "Destiny Hero - Plasma" (whose ATK was 2400 due to it being equipped with "Destiny HERO - Departed"), but Aster activates "Plasma Discharger" to destroy "Departed" and end Adrian's Battle Phase. Adrian then activates "Rage of the Forbidden One" to negate the effect of "Plasma Discharger". Adrian then activates the third effect of "Exodius" to send this card from his hand to the Graveyard, which increases the ATK of "Exodius" by 1000. "Exodius" then destroys "Plasma". Since there are five Forbidden One cards in Adrian's Graveyard and "Exodius" is face-up on the field, Adrian won the Duel by default.
    • In the first above-mentioned episode, this card is shown when Adrian arrives at where Exodia is sealed off and takes out the five Exodia pieces from his Deck.
  • In episode 149, this card was shown in Adrian's hand during his Duel against Jesse Anderson while the latter was possessed by Yubel. Adrian activates the effect of "Ritual of the Ultimate Forbidden Lord" to return "Right Leg of the Forbidden One", "Left Leg of the Forbidden One", and "Left Arm of the Forbidden One" from his Graveyard to his Deck, discard "Right Arm of the Forbidden One" and this card, and Special Summon "Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord". In the next episode, Adrian activates the last effect of "Fog Castle" to send the latter and all cards from his field and hand to the Graveyard and add this card, "Right Leg of the Forbidden One", "Left Arm of the Forbidden One", and "Right Arm the Forbidden One" from his Graveyard to his hand. Adrian then activates "Break the Seal" and activates the latter's effect to add "Left Leg of the Forbidden One" from his Deck to his hand, but Jesse sends "Nightmare Shuffle" to the Graveyard in order to activate "Hand Destruction", which forces both players to send four cards in his hand to the Graveyard and draw four cards. Adrian was then forced to send the four Exodia pieces in his hand to the Graveyard and draw four cards while Jesse just draws one card as he had no cards in his hand. Adrian then activates "A Feather of the Phoenix" to take this card from his Graveyard and place it on top of his Deck. Adrian planned to activate "Backup Soldier" on his next turn to get the three remaining Exodia pieces in his hand and gain an Automatic Win, but Jesse defeats him before that could happen.
