In the anime, this card is depicted as an alteration of "Dark Magician" rather than a separate card. This card's attack name is "Rune Sword" in the original Japanese and "Sword of Dark Magic Attack" in the English dub.
- In episode 113, Yami Yugi uses this card during his Tag Duel with Joey Wheeler against the Big Five. Joey Special Summons this card to Yami Yugi's side of the field via "Knight's Title". Joey then activates his "Flame Swordsman's" Deck Master ability to decrease its ATK by 700 and increase this card's ATK by the same amount. This card then attacks and destroys "Berserk Dragon"; since "Berserk Dragon" was the Big Five's Deck Master, Yami Yugi and Joey win the Duel by default.
- In the original Japanese, this card recites a chant in an unknown (possibly fictional) language as part of its attack.
Scripted Duels
Despite Scripted Duels being based off the anime, this card used its TCG/OCG effect.
- In the non-canon duel North American WCQ 2014 Special: Astral vs. Yugi, Yugi Special Summons this card from the Main Deck by the effect of "Knight's Title". This card's effect then activates, targeting and destroying Astral's "Number 39: Utopia". The same turn, this card attacks Astral's "Flelf", although "Flelf" is not destroyed by battle by the effect of "Pinpoint Guard". The next turn, the effect of Astral's "Number 61: Volcasaurus" destroys this card and inflicts effect damage to Yugi equal to this card's ATK.
