Joey notices "Lava Battleguard" and notes it looks familiar. Joey then takes out this card and notices both cards are similar to each other. Tristan gives "Lava Battleguard" to Joey and states he should try it out sometime and Joey states he will. Joey later used this card in his Duel against Rex Raptor. He Summoned this card after he successfully destroyed Rex's "Uraby" with his "Flame Swordsman". On his next turn, he summoned "Lava Battleguard". With their increased ATK from each other and the Field Power Bonus, they were able to destroy Rex's "Serpent Night Dragon" when it attacked "Swamp Battleguard". However in the next episode, Rex Summoned "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" and equipped it with "Dragon Nails", allowing it to destroy both Battleguards.

  • In episode 218, Tristan uses this card and "Lava Battleguard" to fight Zorc Necrophades' henchmen. After a while, Yugi says there is no time to fight as they must find Yami Yugi. With all their concentration, Yugi and his friends escape the henchmen and head towards where Yami Yugi is.
