Card Rulings:Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame
OCG Rulings
- When "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" Special Summons a monster, if "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" is later destroyed, then the Special Summoned monster's effect will remain negated.[1]
- When "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" Special Summons a monster, if the Special Summoned monster is flipped face-down by "Book of Moon"/etc, then the Special Summoned monster's effect is no longer negated.[2]
- When resolving the effect of "Black Whirlwind", you add a "Blackwing" monster to your hand with less ATK than the ATK of the Normal Summoned monster while the Normal Summoned monster is on the field.[3]
- Example: "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" (1800 ATK) is Normal Summoned while "Mystic Plasma Zone" (+500 ATK) is on the field. If you activate the effect of "Black Whirlwind", then you add a monster with less than 2300 ATK from your Deck to your hand.[3]
- When "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" destroys a monster by battle, if "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" is not face-up on the field when the destroyed monster is sent to the Graveyard, then the effect of "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" does not activate. If "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" battles with a monster with the same ATK and both are destroyed by battle, then the effect of "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" does not activate.[4]
- If "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame", then the effect "while this card is face-up on the field, this card cannot be used as Synchro Material Monster" of "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" is negated, so it can be used for a Synchro Summon.[5]
TCG Rulings
Konami Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Konami before the introduction of Problem-Solving Card Text. Since the introduction of the new text structure, individual card rulings for the TCG are no longer issued or actively maintained.[7] They have never been formally overturned as a whole and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules and do not contradict card text. |
- The Special Summoned monster’s effect is negated as long as it remains face-up on the field.[6]
- CLARIFICATION:
- The effect of “Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame” activates when monsters are destroyed and sent to the Graveyard at the end of the Damage Step. This is the same timing as the effects of cards like “Hydrogeddon,” “Blue Thunder T-45,” “Goyo Guardian,” and “Elemental Hero Flame Wingman” [sic].[6]
- In order for its effect to activate, “Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame” must be face-up on the field when the monster it destroyed by battle is sent to the Graveyard. This means:
- If Shura and the other monster destroy each other by battle (equal ATK), Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is destroyed by a Flip Effect like “Man-Eater Bug,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is flipped face-down after damage calculation by a card effect, such as “Desertapir,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is removed from play [sic] by battling “D.D. Warrior,” Shura’s effect does not activate.
- If Shura is destroyed by an effect after the monster it destroyed by battle was sent to the Graveyard, such as “Michizure,” Shura’s effect DOES activate, and you can Special Summon a monster.[6]
- NOTE: These rules also apply to any other monster with the text “When this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard….” (Examples: “Hydrogeddon,” “Goyo Guardian,” or “Elemental Hero Flame Wingman” [sic].)[6]
- These rules do NOT apply to monsters with the text “When this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle….” (but does not specify “and sends it to the Graveyard”). (Example: “Blue Thunder T-45”.) Monsters with that text will activate their effects in ALL of the above scenarios.[6]
