Q&A Rulings

  • Q: If I Link Summon "Knightmare Goblin" to the Extra Monster Zone, can I activate its effect that allows me to perform an additional Normal Summon that turn?
A: Even if you Link Summon "Knightmare Goblin" to the Extra Monster Zone, you can activate its effect that allows you to perform an additional Normal Summon that turn to a Zone that it points to. While "Knightmare Goblin" is in the Extra Monster Zone, you cannot perform that additional Normal Summon since it does not point to any Main Monster Zones. However, if you activate the effect of a card such as "Trancefamiliar" and move "Knightmare Goblin" to one of your Main Monster Zones, you will then be able to perform the additional Normal Summon if "Knightmare Goblin" points to another Main Monster Zone.[1]
A: Since the effect of "Knightmare Goblin" allows you to perform an additional Normal Summon during your Main Phase that turn, you cannot activate the effect if you Link Summon it during your opponent's turn.[2]
  • Q: When I Link Summon "Knightmare Goblin" and activate its effect that allows me to Normal Summon an additional time this turn to a zone it points to, my opponent chains "Raigeki Break" and destroys that "Knightmare Goblin". In this case, since it is impossible to be able to Normal Summon again by applying the effect, can I activate the effect of a second "Knightmare Goblin" if I Link Summon it this turn?
A: In this scenario, even if "Knightmare Goblin" leaves the field and there are no zones that you can Normal Summon to, it is treated as if the effect that allows you to Normal Summon again is being applied. Therefore, even if you Link Summon a second "Knightmare Goblin", you cannot activate its effect.[3]
  • Q: If "Gem-Knight Seraphinite" is face-up in my Monster Zone, and I performed an additional Normal Summon this turn using its effect, can I then activate the effect of "Knightmare Goblin" when it is Link Summoned?
A: In this scenario, if you already performed an additional Normal Summon this turn using the effect of "Gem-Knight Seraphinite", you cannot activate the effect of "Knightmare Goblin". However, even if "Gem-Knight Seraphinite" is face-up on your field, but you did not perform an additional Normal Summon this turn yet, you can activate the effect of "Knightmare Goblin" when it is Link Summoned. Afterward, you can perform 1 additional Normal Summon using either the effect of "Gem-Knight Seraphinite" or the effect of "Knightmare Goblin". (You cannot gain an additional Normal Summon with both effects.)[4]
  • Q: I Link Summoned "Knightmare Goblin" this turn and activated its effect that allows me to perform an additional Normal Summon to a zone it points to. In this situation, when performing that Normal Summon, can I Tribute that "Knightmare Goblin" to Tribute Summon a monster?
A: When Normal Summoning a monster by applying the effect of "Knightmare Goblin", you must Normal Summon that monster to a zone that "Knightmare Goblin" points to. You can perform a Tribute Summon when applying the effect of "Knightmare Goblin", but you cannot Tribute "Knightmare Goblin" itself.[5]
