Card Rulings:Time Wizard
OCG Rulings
- The effect of "Time Wizard" is an Ignition Effect that activates on the field. (The effect does not target. When the effect resolves, you peform one coin toss and call it.)[1]
- If you call the coin toss wrong, the effect destroys all monsters you control, including the "Time Wizard" that activated the effect. (Not only are face-up monsters destroyed, but face-down monsters as well.)[1]
- If you call the coin toss wrong, you take damage equal to half the total ATK of your face-up monsters destroyed by the effect. (This does not include the ATK of your destroyed face-down monsters.)[1]
- Destroying your monsters and taking damage equal to half the total ATK of your destroyed face-up monsters are considered to resolve simultaneously.[1]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Stardust Dragon: You can use "Stardust Dragon"'s effect against this card, since its effect will destroy monsters if the result is heads, and will destroy monsters if the result is tails (there is no situation where the effect will not destroy monsters).[2]
- Starlight Road: "Starlight Road" cannot be Chained to the activation of effects like that of "Dark Master - Zorc" or "Time Wizard", since it is unknown whether or not the effect will destroy two cards on your side of the field.[3]

- Prime Material Dragon/Musakani Magatama: You can activate "Musakani Magatama" or "Prime Material Dragon" to negate the effect of "Time Wizard" as "Time Wizard" is guaranteed to destroy a card.[4]
Upper Deck Entertainment Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[5] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - The effect of "Time Wizard" is an Ignition Effect, and therefore can only be activated during your Main Phase 1 or 2.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Barrel Behind the Door: You cannot activate "Barrel Behind the Door" against effects if you don't know for certain that they will inflict damage when the effect is activated. So you cannot activate it against..."Time Wizard"...
- My Body as a Shield: You cannot use "My Body as a Shield" against cards whose effects might or might not destroy a monster right away, such as..."Time Wizard".
- Prime Material Dragon: You cannot use "Prime Material Dragon's" effect against cards whose effects may or may not destroy a monster right away, such as... "Time Wizard"...
