OCG Rulings

  • This card's effect, that Special Summons itself and returns another "Trickstar" monster you control to the hand, is a Quick Effect that activates in the hand. (Revealing this card in the hand is the cost to activate this effect. This effect cannot be activated during the Damage Step.)[1]
  • This card's effect, that Special Summons itself and returns a monster to the hand, targets 1 face-up "Trickstar" monster in your Monster Zone. (You can also target a "Trickstar Holly Angel" you control. In that case, it does not return to the hand but to the Extra Deck, instead.)[1]
  • This card's effects, that Special Summons itself and returns the target monster to the hand, happen simultaneously.[1]
  • This card's effect, that inflicts damage to your opponent each time a card(s) is added to their hand, is a Continuous Effect. (The damage inflicted does not start a chain. This effect is applied even if a card is added to your opponent's hand during the Damage Step.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: In this scenario, after your opponent takes damage from the effect of each "Trickstar Lycoris", "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" is Special Summoned from your opponent’s hand by its own effect, and its effect that inflicts damage to you will inflict damage equal to the damage inflicted to your opponent by a single copy of "Trickstar Lycoris" (in other words, 200).[2]
A: When the effect of each "Trickstar Lycoris" is applied, the effect of "Trickstar Light Stage" will also apply each time. In this case, when each "Trickstar Lycoris" inflicts 200 damage, "Trickstar Light Stage" inflicts another 200 damage. As a result, if there are 3 copies of "Trickstar Lycoris", this happens 3 times and your opponent takes 1200 damage in total.[3]
A: In this scenario, 3 Ojama Tokens are Special Summoned to your side of the field by the effect of your opponent’s "Ojama Trio", which means you have no vacant Main Monster Zones afterward. Since you cannot Special Summon "Trickstar Lycoris" from your hand, it sent to the Graveyard instead, and the targeted "Trickstar Lilybell" remains on the field.[4]
A: If your hand is revealed by the effect of "The Eye of Truth", you cannot activate the effect of a "Trickstar Lycoris" in your hand.[5]
  • Q: If "Trickstar Lycoris" is in my hand, can I activate its effect that Special Summons it more than once on the same Chain?
A: If there are multiple copies of "Trickstar Lycoris" in your hand, you can activate each of their effects that Special Summon them from your hand. However, "Trickstar Lycoris" must be revealed in your hand to activate its effect, and remains revealed until the effect resolves, so a single "Trickstar Lycoris" can only activate its effect once in a Chain.[6]
A: Even if the “Trickstar” monster targeted with the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" is in face-down Defense Position when the effect resolves, the effect is applied normally. ("Trickstar Lycoris" is Special Summoned, and your face-down Defense Position "Trickstar Candina" is returned to the hand.)[7]
A: As in this scenario, if the "Trickstar" monster targeted with the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" was destroyed and is no longer on the field when the effect resolves, "Trickstar Lycoris" is still Special Summoned from your hand but the part of the effect that returns the targeted monster to your hand is not applied.[8]
A: Even if the “Trickstar” monster targeted with the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" is on your opponent’s field when the effect resolves, the effect is applied normally. ("Trickstar Lycoris" is Special Summoned, and "Trickstar Candina" is returned from your opponent’s field to the owner’s hand.)[9]
A: As in this scenario, if "Trickstar Lycoris" is no longer in your hand when resolving its effect, no part of the effect is applied.[10]
  • Q: Will the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" that inflicts damage to my opponent apply when they draw a card(s) for their normal draw in the Draw Phase?
A: When your opponent draws for their normal draw in their Draw Phase, they are adding a card to their hand, so the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" that inflicts 200 damage to your opponent is applied.[11]
  • Q: "Trickstar Lycoris" is face-up on my field. In this situation, my opponent activates "Preparation of Rites", and adds a Level 7 or lower Ritual Monster from their Deck to their hand, then a Ritual Spell Card from their Graveyard to their hand. After adding those 2 cards to their hand, how much damage does my opponent take from the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris"?
A: In this scenario, after "Preparation of Rites" finishes resolving, the effect of "Trickstar Lycoris" is applied and inflicts 400 damage to your opponent.[12]
  • Q: The only monster on my opponent's field is a face-up "Trickstar Lycoris". In this situation, I activate "Hero Blast" targeting an "Elemental HERO Neos" in my Graveyard. In this case, when resolving the effect of "Hero Blast", will the effect of my opponent's "Trickstar Lycoris" that inflicts 200 damage each time I add a card to my hand be applied?
A: In this scenario, when "Hero Blast" resolves, the targeted "Elemental HERO Neos" in your Graveyard is added to your hand, and then your opponent's "Trickstar Lycoris" is destroyed, so its effect that inflicts damage cannot be applied.[13]
